Of course, shehadmoney. She could give that money to the ranch. But that would mean so many things. It would mean that people would know who she really was. It would mean that Takis would know she’d lied to get a job here. It would mean that Trent’s opinion of her would change.

Plus, there was the very real possibility that it would be a mistake. Her heart clenched as she remembered the last time she had held an idea like this, the last time she had seen a way out. The memory of her terrible mistake at the hedge fund, the one that had cost her boss millions, still stung like a fresh wound. The feeling of failure and shame, the look in her boss’s eyes as he fired her, the whispers and stares of her colleagues. It had been crippling.

“Do you think more money would help?” she found herself saying.

Trent looked at her with confusion. “Maybe. Who knows? Maybe this is the beginning of the end, no matter what.” He smiled a gentle smile. “Why? Have you had some kind of genius investment idea? Some hedge-fund wizardry?” The look he gave her was half-hopeful, half-playful.

“I... I don’t know,” she mumbled, avoiding his gaze. The fear was overwhelming. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to...” she trailed off, her heart pounding in her chest.

“Don’t worry,” Trent said, “we’ll get through this.” Trent straightened up and stretched, groaning with the effort of it. “And there’s more to life than work. Tomorrow,” he said, looking down at Patti with a hint of a smile, “we should focus on the other thing that’s going on right now. Our relationship.”

Patti’s eyes widened, but she couldn’t deny the flicker of excitement that danced through her. It hadn’t just been a dream. It was really happening. He’d used the “r” word.Relationship!

“I was worried,” she said, “with all this going on… it might not be appropriate.”

“Honey,” he said, the kindness of the pet name warming her heart, “in complicated times, Littles need a rock to rely on. I’m going to be that rock for you.”

For a moment, she wanted to rush over to him, to feel his arms around her again. But she wanted, even more than that, to be a good girl for Daddy.

“Tomorrow,” she agreed, her voice soft but resolute. And as they gazed into each other’s eyes, Patti knew that whatever challenges lay ahead, they would face them together, side by side.

CHAPTER NINE

Pattihadneversigneda full-blown DDlg contract before. She’d put her name to a couple of small agreements with playmates in a BDSM club in New York, but it was mostly just to add a little more spice to a scene, rather than to lay the foundation for a healthy, long-term age-play relationship.

She couldn’t stop thinking about it, about what she might have to agree to, about what Trent’s demands of her might be.

“You’re signing the contract today?!” Millie, who’d come by Patti’s room to ask whether Patti had any plans to start running the exercise classes again, was stunned by the outpouring of information that Patti couldn’t help but share with her.

“Mmhmm. Is it too soon? You think it’s too soon, don’t you?” Patti was pacing back and forth, trying to calm herself down. “It’s probably a huge mistake, isn’t it? A nightmare, right? I’m making the biggest—“

Millie’s laugh cut her off. “I’m sorry, love, I shouldn’t be laughing.”

“That’s right, Patti said, scowling playfully. “You shouldn’t.”

“You’ve got a real thing about making mistakes, haven’t you?”

“I guess so. Doesn’t everyone?”

“No,” Millie replied, earnestly. “Most people make mistakes, learn from them—sometimes—and then carry on.”

“Sounds nice,” Patti said, cuddling her sloth stuffie, Chunky, up close to her. “But it also sounds impossible.”

“I can’t believe Trent is going to be your Daddy. Chuck is going to lose his mind!”

“Don’t tell him! Please!”

Millie looked concerned, “Patti, I can’t keep anything from my Daddy. I’ll get a spanking—and I mean a really, really bad one.”

Patti’s heart sank. It would be terrible to see Millie get punished because of her.

“I understand,” Patti said. “But could you just hold off for like, a day? Give Trent a chance to tell Duke first?”

Millie looked a little anxious but nodded. “I’ll do my best.”

“If you have to tell him, you have to tell him. I don’t want to make you uncomfortable.”

“Thank you. I guess I’ll do my best to not mention it. And if I get a spanking… I’ll survive.” It almost seemed as though Millie was excited about the idea.
