“We’re having this conversationbecauseof everything I’ve been through,” he shouts, meeting me halfway round the bar and getting up in my face. “This whole attitude of yours of being better than anyone else is ridiculous. Yes, you’re royalty. Who fucking cares? It’s an antiquated regime doing more harm than good under your mother’s rule, and I know you feel the same way, so why are we dancing to her tune?”

“We’re not dancing to her fucking tune,” I hiss, my eyes narrowed to slits as I stare into his. “We’re playing the game, Tai. Youknowthis. You’re right about her, but the only way we can change that is to play. The. Fucking. Game. So play it. Forget about Maddison Darling and focus on our goddamn future.”

“That’s exactly what I’m doing.” He’s trembling with exasperation now and frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if this comes to blows. Which is odd. It never goes this far with us.

As if Wolf had the same thought I just did, he steps in. “Now, now, boys, let’s take this down a notch, shall we?”

He places one palm on my chest and one on Taiyo’s, pushes us apart, and then gives each of us a meaningful look. “The enemy isn’t in this room. You’ve got different views on the role of the monarchy. We all know that, but this isn’t about the monarchy. It’s about who we’re going to end up bonded to, which isn’t a decision we can make when we’re about to start throwing punches.”

He moves that sea-green gaze to Tai’s and pats his chest. “Take a walk, brother. I’ve got this.”

Tai glares at him for another beat, then his chest deflates, and he nods. “Fine, I was done anyway. Like talking to a brick fucking wall.”

Wolf heaves out a dramatic sigh, but then he winks at me as soon as Tai stalks out of the room. “Damn, man. It’s been a long time since you’ve gonefull Alpha. It’s nice to know you’ve still got it in you. C’mon. Let’s go.”

“Where?”

“I’m going to help you out,” he says as he starts toward his chambers. “Let’s go, Your Highness. We’re burning moonlight here.”

If he were anyone else, I’d have told him to shove it so hard I’d be able to take whatever it was out of his mouth after, but he’s not anyone else. He’s Wolfgang Von Damme, and he’s been my best friend since we were thirteen.

Honestly, he was—and sometimes continues to be—a terrible influence, but he was also the one person who made me feel alive. Until Tai came along, then there were two people who made me feel alive. It’s still like that, the three of us against the world.

And suddenly, I feel like an asshole. I’ll have to find Tai and apologize.

Wolf pulls his shirt off and all rational thought flees as he drags me toward his bedroom.

He’s already unbuttoning his trousers before we cross the threshold, kicking them off as he walks.

Fuck, he’s perfect.

Always has been. Probably always will be.

All the way from those golden locks, to the broad shoulders and chest that tapers down into narrow hips, further to his glorious, long cock that’s as veiny and nearly as thick as his neck when his knot’s swollen, to his muscular legs and even his goddamn perfect toes. He’s just…exquisite.

I know he works hard for every ripple of definition in his arms and torso, and those legs and that ass are the product of hours spent upon a horse, but shit. My throat bobs as I swallow. He’s so fucking sexy, it hurts.

“You’re really wound that tight?” he asks as he strides over to me and takes the back of my neck in his strong hand. “Do you want me to call that Beta friend of mine? You know, the one who does that thing with her tongue?”

“No.” I stare into those breathtaking eyes. Touching anyone who isn’t my pack or Maddie right now feels wrong.

Whoa. Back the fuck up? Since when am I thinking about her that way?

I groan out loud, and Wolf offers me a knowing smirk. “You’re thinking about her still, aren’t you?”

My throat constricts. I give him nothing to indicate that he’s right or wrong, but I don’t have to. Somehow, Wolf always knows.

Those eyes soften and I swear—I fucking swear—I would go to war for this man. The way he reads my mind…

“Are you?”

“Yeah, Kaz. I can’t seem to stop.” The words are hardly out before his mouth claims mine in a bruising kiss, one that makes my dick threaten to tear my zipper apart, but it still doesn’t feel right. Not until I feel another pair of arms wrapping around me from behind and Taiyo’s voice whispering in my ear.

“I forgive you,” he murmurs against the back of my neck. “You’re a fucking idiot, but I forgive you. This is just—”

“Hard?” I offer on a breath.

“You’re goddamn right, it’s hard.” Wolf grunts into my mouth as his cock rocks into mine. “It’s so fucking hard. Get those clothes off him, Tai. I’ve got plans.”
