I black out after that. I have a vague recollection of Declan pulling my sweatshirt over my dress, then carrying me out the backdoor and to the car. Thankfully, there are no paps to witness my sex-hazed state. Along the way, he speaks to one of the shop's assistants and orders them to deliver all of the clothes and shoes in the dressing room to his place. Guess everyone in that shop heard me scream when I climaxed earlier. I flush. To see the expressions on their faces, you wouldn’t guess, though. Guess they're paid enough by Declan to ignore the goings-on.

I fall asleep in the car and wake only when he carries me to his room. He strips me of my clothes, fucks me again—very slowly this time—then spoons his body around mine before pulling the covers over both of us.

I wake to find him moving about the room getting dressed. He walks over, kisses me and orders me back to sleep. I want to ask him where he's going. A part of me knows he's leaving. But I can’t not obey him. Besides, I'm exhausted, and when he tucks the blankets around me, I fall asleep again.

When I awaken, I'm alone with a slim rectangular jewelry case and a note addressed to me on his pillow.

"So, this is where you’re hiding out?" Knight kicks out his legs and glances about the 7A Club. It's situated in the heart of London yet tucked away from intrusive eyes, thanks to the tree cover in front of its impressive facade. The pre-war heritage building has become my home away from home. I’m now renting a room above the club house… on an ongoing basis.

"I’m not hiding out."

I’m hiding out.

"You’re hiding out," he says with finality.

"I have no idea what you’re talking about."

"Oh?" He places the tips of his fingers together. "Then what are you doing here, instead of being in LA?"

"I knew you were coming here, and it’s been so long since I’ve seen you, I thought I’d spend some quality time with you."

He lowers his chin and fixes me with a disbelieving look. "We’re good friends, and I like your company, but if I had a woman waiting for me, you bet your arse, I’d be with her instead of choosing to put up with your ugly face."

"Aww, now you hurt me." I slap my hand over my heart in an exaggerated gesture. "And here, I thought this was our chance to make up for some of the time we’ve lost over the years."

He chuckles. "You poor sod. You’re running scared, huh?"

"I don't know what you mean." I snatch my mug of coffee and take a sip.

"Did you realize you were falling for her? Is that why you’ve stayed away?"

"Falling for whom?"

He reaches over and claps me on the back of my head.

"Ow, what was that for?" I place my cup down on the table, then grab a paper-towel and dab at the stains on my sweatshirt.

"Stop pretending you don’t know who I’m referring to."

"Fine, I do. And no, I’m not falling for her."

"You prefer to fly halfway around the world to London instead of going to LA when you get time off, and you’re going to tell me it’s not because you have feelings for her."

"First, the shooting of the film has moved to Europe, which is why it’s easier to come to London rather than LA. And two—" I ball up the towel and dunk it in the bin. "I’m not falling for her because I've already fallen for her."

He blinks. "Hold on, so you’re saying that—"

"I have feelings for her, yes. Which is why I need to stay away from her."

"You’re not making any sense. You discovered you have feelings for her, so you’re putting distance between the two of you?"

"Isn’t that what I just said?"
