“Wear those silky, red ones. He will die when he sees you in those. You’re drop-dead gorgeous.”

“I’m only his assistant,” I press. “That is all. I told him that.”

She snorts. “Yeah, whatever. Like that’s believable.”

“Just help me pack.”

Once I’m finished packing, I change into a comfortable dress. Taking in my surroundings, it finally hits me that I won’t see this place again for six months. For that, I’m grateful.

“You have to keep me posted on everything,” she pleads.

Facing Natalie, I smile.

“Of course,” I reply, accepting her tight embrace. “I’m going to miss you. Are you sure you’ll be okay?”

“Don’t worry about me. I’m a big girl.”

“He says he’ll be writing out a check, so at least you don’t have to worry about my share of the rent. I’m getting good money for being his assistant. In the meantime, if you need any help, any at all, you have to let me know.”

She laughs, pushing me toward the door. “I’m fine.”

“Well, I’ll call you when I land.”

She sadly gawks at me. “His own private jet? Shit, I would kill to be in your shoes right now. Get laid for me.”

Oh, I will.

You have no idea.

Shutting the door behind me, I’m trying desperately to calm my erratic thoughts. Dragging my heavy-as-shit suitcase down the hall as quickly as I can, nearly tripping on my own feet, a quiet chuckle disrupts me.

Mr. Edwards is standing a few doors down, waiting patiently, with his back pressed against the wall. His arms are folded over the front of his suit, and he’s staring humorously in my direction.

I deeply sigh.

“Need some help?” he asks. “Allow me.”

“I’ve got it,” I respond, until he takes the handle of the suitcase right out of my grasp. “I thought I told you to wait outside.”

“That fucking mouth of yours,” he sharply exhales, turning away. “I don’t know who you think you’re talking to. I don’ttakeorders from anyone. I give them.”

“Yeah, well, I’m not your Submissive just yet.”

He laughs at my remark, and we head toward the elevator.

“You have no clue how difficult it is for me to not place you over my knee, and spank your ass raw.”

“What’s holding you back?”

He shoots me an intense stare, eyes narrowed. “You’ve yet to sign my contract, Ms. Pierce.”

Anticipation overwhelms me as we step into the elevator. The memory of last night at the Pierre comes to mind, our heated encounter of him pinning me against the wall. A part of me wonders if it will happen again.

Although, this time, he doesn’t move an inch.

CHAPTERSIX

There’s a long silence between us. Jaxon pulls over to the gate of a private airport, where a man in business attire stands formally. After a few seconds, and a courteous nod, the gate opens. We come to a stop near a runway, and instantly, I am struck with awe.
