Two hours pass, and suddenly, our surroundings change. We’re driving down long, quiet streets, and woods surround us. We pass by lakes and farms, such beautiful scenery, throwing me even further off guard. The excitement is unreal.

“This is beautiful!” I exclaim, happily gazing out the window at the fenced-in horses.

“It is.”

Closing my eyes, I relax in my seat, adoring how drastically everything has changed.

“We’re here,” Jaxon announces.

Immediately sitting up, I watch as he takes a sharp turn and begins to drive down a curvy driveway. Right when I least expect it, the trees open before us, and I stare at the sight before me in astonishment. There is a large, beautiful log cabin.

Nowthisis what I call a romantic getaway.

* * *

Stepping inside the cabin,my new surroundings have me elated, astounded by the beauty. There’re wooden walls, polished hardwood floors, and tall wooden pillars. There’s a large, stone fireplace in the living area and a wall entirely made up of glass.

Trees are grouped together in silent formation, mountains far out in the distance. There’re tall bushes, flowers, and weeds out beyond the windows, and there’s not one cloud in the sky on this gorgeous day.

My gaze roams over the ceiling, taking in the beams and beautifully sculpted structures. The wall of logs creates a rustic feel, with the smell of cedar and the cozy, warm feeling it sends over me. Sunshine lights up the room, rays beaming in through the glass and illuminating the floating dust particles in the air.

Jaxon shows me out back as we step onto the deck, down the few flights of stairs, until we reach the concrete area. An outdoor table along with chairs is off to the side, along with a fire pit built into the ground.

Gazing out in the distance, there are tall mountains and hundreds of miles of trees. Looking up, I take in the sky’s beauty, listening to the sounds of nature.

“I’d like to show you something,” Jaxon abruptly says, holding out his hand. “Come.”

“Okay,” I say, and place my hand in his.

We make our way toward an open path in the woods, enhanced with pebbles in the ground. Walking down the trail hand in hand with Jaxon feels surreal.

Everything between us has changed so drastically, it almost seems to be a dream.

“I have to be honest,” I break the silence, hesitating. “I didn’t think you knew how to have fun.”

“Is that so?”

“Well, yeah. You’re always just so obsessed with work.”

“It’s not an obsession,” he presses. “It’s my career.”

“If you say so. I haven’t done anything fun like this in a long time. It’s been all about working my ass off and trying to make enough money to pay the rent on time.” Suddenly, a thought hits me. “Shit. Natalie. My portion of the rent.”

“It’s already been taken care off,” he tells me. “The night I met you, you said you were having a bad night at work—”

“I don’t want to talk about it.”

“Where exactly was work?” he wonders, dismissing my words as I gently pull my hand from his. My cheeks fill with warmth. How embarrassing to discuss my personal life with a man who has done so well for himself. “Was I right, Sasha?”

“Yeah,” I bleakly reply. “I worked at the strip club. Not the proudest highlight of my life, but it did pay the bills.”

“I apologize. I didn’t mean to intrude.”

“It’s fine, really. I’m just not used to sharing it with anyone.”

His eyes carefully search mine. “You shouldn’t have to.”

“Natalie and I first just worked as strippers,” I begin to explain, my gaze roaming along the trees. “But then money still somehow managed to get tough. Living in the city probably wasn’t the best idea. So, we decided that we could make a little extra, selling a little extra.”
