“You’ll see,” he said with that charming smirk of his.

“How’s everyone out there doing tonight?” he spoke into the microphone, and everyone went crazy.

“Good. I know the feeling. I know you haven’t seen much of me up here, and I do that on purpose. That’s because she’s the good-looking one in the group,” he said as he gave a nod toward me. I rolled my eyes, and the audience laughed.

“But anyway, I’m so happy to see how much you love the music here tonight, and it means the world to me to watch our albums fly off the shelves like they do. Krissy has said more than once that there are plenty for sale in the back, but that’s not quite true. With all the sales that we’ve had so far this evening, we’re looking at having to order more and getting them to you when they come in. So don’t wait if you want one. Get back there and get one for yourself,” he said.

I smiled. I wasn’t sure if that was true, but Gavin knew how to make sales, that was for sure. And if it was true, that just added to the happiness I felt. It was another level of the dream coming true for me, and the fact that I got to share it with the man of my dreams was even better.

“But you know, there’s something else I wanted to address with you all before the end of the night,” Gavin continued. “I know you’ve loved the set; I can tell by the fact I can hardly hear a thing. I love that you are all in love with this beautiful woman right here. I can tell you one thing; she is the love of my life.”

There were more cheers, and he held up his hand to quiet them.

“But there’s something I wanted to do. You might say that I’m doing this because I don’t want her to get too important for me, or maybe I’m just afraid that with her growing fame, it’s just a matter of time before someone else tries to come in and steal my girlfriend away from me. But I can tell you one thing. The best way to make it hard for someone to steal your girlfriend is to make sure you don’t have a girlfriend to steal.”

I watched him, confused by the speech he was making. I thought he was going to be promoting the music more, but now he was talking about me. That wasn’t unusual, but he never went on and on like this.

I wanted to ask him what he was doing once again, but he was too busy with the crowd to give me the chance to step in and tell him anything.

Finally, he pulled the mic from the stand.

“So, I’m going to make sure I don’t have a girlfriend anymore. I never again want to have one,” Gavin said.

He walked over to me with his mic in his hand, then he got down on one knee, pulling a ring out of his back pocket with his other hand.

“Krissy,” he said. “I could go on and on about how amazing you are, but I’m not going to do that. And I’m not skipping that because it’s not true. I’m skipping it because you know it’s true, and you know I know it’s true. What I want to tell you right now is that you are my hero. You are the most incredible woman who has ever come into my life, and I am lucky to have met you.”

Tears welled up in my eyes. I knew what he was doing, but the fact he was doing it right now was almost too much. I didn’t know what to do with myself in that moment. I didn’t feel like I was on stage in front of everyone. I felt like it was just the two of us.

“I almost lost you once, a long time ago. And I’m here to tell you now that I’m never going to make that mistake again. I’m not going to ever let you come close to thinking that again. I love you more than anything, Krissy, and I’m asking you today if you would make me the happiest man in the world,” he said.

He was looking into my eyes as he spoke, and I was doing my best not to break down in tears right there. I didn’t want to cry in front of all those people. But then, I also didn’t really care how big of a show this was. I hadn’t planned any of this, which meant that the reaction I was having was entirely organic.

“Krissy, I know I’m not perfect. You know it more than I do,” Gavin said to the amusement of the audience. “But, if you are willing to give me the chance, I will work every day of my life to be the best husband and partner to you that I can be. There will be good days and there will be bad, but as long as I have you, I will do everything I can to make sure you have as many good days as possible.”

“Every day with you is a good day,” I said.

“Krissy, will you marry me?” he asked.

“Yes!” I cried with a nod. I knew the crowd wasn’t able to hear me, but they could see my reaction, and after nodding, he put the shiny, gorgeous ring on my finger. I then threw my arms around his neck and kissed him in front of everyone.

“Yes, again and again, yes,” I said into his ear as the crowd clapped. “I love you, Gavin.”

“I love you, too,” he said back to me as he held me tightly in his warm, bracing arms. In that moment it was just the two of us.

I finally found my happy ever after.

The End
