I tap my pen against my notepad as I try to summarize what the professor said. But every time I write down some of the words that pop into my head, I stop at a single word repeated many times in his sentences.

Come.

A very normal word for people who haven’t spent a single second on a device that forced them to actually come over and over again.

That word is now tarnished forever in my mind.

Each time I hear it, I stop and pause to take a breath, my slit getting wet.

Don’t think about it. Forget it ever happened.

“Hey, have you got any plans for tonight?” Brooke whispers into my ear.

“No, nothing,” I reply.

I wouldn’t dare to go out on another hunt right now. Not with those boys watching my every move.

“Wanna come to Club Rivera with me?” she asks, smirking. “I heard all the sexy Skull & Serpent guys will be there.”

God, I hope she’s not referring to my brother.

“Um, sure,” I reply. Maybe it’ll be good to get my mind off things. And since it’s my dad’s club, my safety is guaranteed. And better yet, those Phantoms don’t have a chance of stepping one foot inside that establishment. “Yeah, let’s do it.”

“Awesome,” she says, clutching my arm. “I’m so excited. Do you think there’s a discount because you’re a family member?”

I snort. “Wouldn’t count on it. Dad’s too busy with the school, so someone else manages the clubs.” I smile at her. “But maybe a free drink.”

“Aw yeah.” She hugs me tight. “That’s what I’m talking about. You and I are gonna have so much fucking fun tonight.”

“What about Irina?” I ask.

“She’s sick in bed,” Brooke replies. “But I can ask Crystal.”

“My brother’s friends?” I frown.

“Yeah, we’re friends,” she says, like it’s the most normal thing ever. “She’s really sweet. You’ll like her, promise.”

“Okay. Crystal, huh? Sure, why not,” I mutter, still trying to focus on what the professor is saying.

But then he checks the time and puts his suitcase on the desk. “That was it for today. Make sure to fill out the papers and give them back by Monday.”

“Fuck …” I sigh out loud.

Brooke eyes my notes. “Oh, here.” She takes a photo of her own notes and sends them over in a text. “You can have mine.”

“Thanks.” I smile.

“No worries. Always willing to lend a distracted friend a hand.” She winks. “Must be boys, right?”

My eyes widen. “What?”

“It’s always boys,” she murmurs.

But the hairs on the back of my neck still stand up as she packs her bag and gets up from her seat. “See you tonight, L!” And she throws me an air kiss before she walks out of class.

I’m probably the last to leave as I swiftly tuck my notepad, pen, and book into my bag and throw it over my shoulder.

Suddenly, my phone buzzes, and I pause to check.
