While I’m furious about the Savage Kings president and vice president’s ambush, I can’t seem to shake off what Torin Fury said about Holly. Is the fucker really gonna come in my bar, threaten me, and then try to play matchmaker? It doesn’t make any fucking sense.

But instead of going to Holly’s that night, I end up at Lyla’s.

Well, Lyla and Barrett’s since they moved in together just a month after he opened his little charity place across the street. It seemed fast, but she’s so happy I kept my concerns to myself.

There’s a closed garage, so I can’t tell if they’re home when I walk up to the front door and ring the doorbell.

Fulton answers the door. I don’t bother with bullshit greetings.

“You could’ve fucking warned me that your Savage Kings daddies were going to pay me a visit!” I yell at him.

He blinks at me. “What?”

“You’re gonna act like you didn’t know the Fury brothers came to my bar?”

“Torin and Chase Fury showed up in Clayton?” he asks, and I nod. “Holy shit,” he says, sounding genuinely shocked. “If Remy knew about their visit, then he didn’t tell me. What did they say? Is everyone okay?”

“What do you think they said? Patch over or fold. Not to mention they threw out plenty of details they somehow knew about my goddamn personal life.”

“Like what?”

“Like mind your own damn business, Fulton! My men voted. We’re not patching over.”

“Then you have to try and change their minds. Why are you being so stubborn about this, Isaac?”

“I’m not having a bunch of…assholes tell me what to do,” I remark, avoiding a certain word after the Fury brother threw it in my face because of Holly’s age.

“Nobody is going to boss you around. You won’t be a prospect. You’ll be a fully patched member. And then you’ll have the backing of hundreds of members across the country. The money they bring in…”

“I don’t give a shit about the money!”

“You can’t honestly tell me you like all the drama and headaches and paperwork that comes with being in charge. Let someone else handle that shit while you sit back and reap the benefits.”

“Sit back and let your fucking brother order me around? Hell no.”

“I don’t know how much Thane told you, but you don’t have a choice.”

“There’s always a choice.”

“The Kings are bringing in men from all over to remove any sign of the Devil Hounds’ existence. This is a fight you can’t win.”

“Then I’ll go down swinging,” I tell him before I turn around and jog down the front steps.

“Isaac, wait. Don’t you want to see Lyla? She should be back from her dinner out soon.”

I stop but don’t turn around. “If you think my daughter will change my mind on this, you’re wrong, Fulton. Just promise you’ll get her out of town before more Kings show up.”

“You know I would never put her in danger.”

“Yeah, because you know I’ll fucking kill you first if you do.”

“No, because I love her, and it would kill me if anything happened to her.”

Does the asshole have any idea that he just threw the hell I’ve been living for twenty years in my fucking face?

I turn around and debate how pissed Lyla would be if I kicked his ass. Since that’s probably unforgivable in her mind, I climb up the steps and shove past him into the house. “I’ll wait ten minutes, then I’m gone.”

“I won’t stand in the way of the door,” Fulton grumbles.
