I want all of her touches and smiles. No one else deserves them. Hell, I don’t deserve them. But I’m a selfish man, and I won’t deny that seeing her touch another man has lit a fire inside of me. I want to claim her in front of everyone, throw her over my shoulder like a caveman, and take her home.

The beer tastes like shit going down because my entire mood has soured. And I know what I’m about to do next is going to change everything about the way my ranch works. I know that I’m about to break my own rule, and I’m about to be the most unprofessional boss. But that doesn’t stop me. It can’t. My mind is already made up.

“You look determined,” Wells says, a touch of humor in his voice.

“He is.” Hayes lightens up a bit. “He’s gonna go get the girl.”

I set the empty bottle of beer back on the table.

I sigh.

I look at both of my brothers, who just smirk back at me.

Poppy glances over at me, catches me staring, and then blushes furiously.

“Fuck it.”

I guessit was bound to happen, running into Gray in a town this small. When he came over and asked if I would dance with him, Hayes all but shoved me out of the booth. I had my suspicions as to why he wanted me to go with Gray so badly. These brothers are constantly fucking with each other, and I had a feeling he thought it would fuck with Rhett.

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want it to fuck with Rhett, too.

What he had done at his parents’ house had me on edge. Sitting in the back seat of the truck with him was torture. And knowing that I now have to spend the entire evening with him, I’m afraid I’m not going to make it through without making a fool of myself.

I am not the girl that throws herself at men. If they don’t want me, they don’t want me. And that’s fine. But I know Rhett wants me. You don’t just go around sticking your thumb in people’s mouths youdon’twant to fuck. But he’s stubborn, and I’m sure he’s not a fan that I’m so much younger than him. Or that I work for him.

So I’m just trying to enjoy myself with Gray. He may not look at me like we’re just friends, but that’s okay. I don’t intend to see him that often, and I have three men with me that would probably beat him to a pulp if he did anything I didn’t like. And it’s just a bonus that we’re right in the line of sight of Rhett.

Gray spins me out from his body and then tugs on my arm, yanking me back into him. I collide with his chest because my feet can’t seem to keep up with this fast-paced country dancing. My eyes just so happen to check back at the table where I left Hayes. Like a magnet, I’m drawn straight to Rhett, who is looking at me like he either wants to punish me or fuck me.

I feel my cheeks heat, and it takes all my strength to tug them off his scowl. He hasn’t shaved in a few days, and that beard is doing all sorts of wonderful things to my lady bits. I’m betting it would feel amazing as he ran his mouth between my thighs.

“You are just what this town needs,” Gray says, smiling down at me from under his cowboy hat. He’s handsome, but I just can’t see anything past Rhett. I don’t know when that happened, or how it happened so quickly, but that man is all I see.

“Oh yeah?”

“Needed someone new, someone fun to lighten everyone up around here.”

I laugh and look down at my feet, hoping I can will them with the power of my mind to hit the correct steps.

“Not sure how fun I am. I’m an asleep-by-ten kind of girl now that I’m working all day on that ranch. I’m exhausted constantly.”

“They workin’ you too hard over there?” At first, I think he’s still being playful, but when I look up, his eyebrows are drawn together in concern.

“What?” What a ridiculous thing to ask. “No. It’s a good kind of exhaustion. I’m finally doing something that makes me feel like I have a purpose. It’s nice working with my hands and my body. And they’ve been nothing but kind to me.”

“Even Rhett?” he asks, his voice a bit louder than I wish it was. Especially when I notice Rhett has walked up behind him.

“Even Rhett, what?” he asks, grabbing Gray’s attention.

“We were just talking about how kind you and your family have been,” I intervene.

He grunts. Always with the grunting.

“Well, I came to steal you away. I think Gray here has had enough of your time.” He places a heavy hand on Gray’s shoulder, giving it a hard squeeze that makes Gray wince.

The butterflies in my stomach flutter around and wreak havoc.

“We’re in the middle of a song,” Gray bites back.
