“Don’t hold back.”

I reach a fever pitch and a true scream escapes me. Tears are coming again but I can’t quell them as his pace rises to something furious. I swear, he means to break me in his pursuit to breed me, but there’s something remorseful in his expression as he comes again, harder than ever before. My body bows against the strain.

I can’t take any more, but he’s still coming.

What can I do but accept it?

When he’s finally finished, he drops to his elbows around me, kissing my face all over, as if he’s sorry for something. But he’s fucked all the worry out of me, and I’m confused by his dark expression. I reach for his face and trace the hard line of his cheekbone. “What’s wrong?”

“You’re already tired,” he murmurs.

I smile up him. “Of course, I’m tired. We just did it twice.”

He captures my hand and kisses my palm. “We’ve only just started, Cora,” comes his gentle warning, stirring me from my rapture. “We have a long night ahead of us.”

Giroth picks me up again, his cock still buried deeply inside of me.

My cheek rests against his broad shoulder as he takes the steps two at a time until we’re back in his bedroom. His fingers trace my spine, and I finally begin to realize what I’ve gotten myself into. “All night?”

“Mhm,” comes his response as he drops with me onto the mattress. “All night.”

Latched like this to him, I don’t mind the thought so much. But I think about the other women, and Laura, who took their choice from them, curling up tighter against him as he strokes my back. “I think I’m okay with that.”

A contented rumble spreads through him, and he kisses my crown. “I promise,” he whispers in my ear. “I will cherish every inch of you before dawn comes. And every day for the rest of our lives.”

The rest of our lives, I think, reveling in his embrace. I like the sound of that.

GIROTH

I can’t count the times we made love.

Despite my greatest fears, she survived our vigorous pairing, and rests languidly in my arms as morning dawns. As tired as she is, though, she doesn’t fall asleep, tracing little circles over the flesh of my chest.

I don’t think I could rise if I wanted to, after the effort I put into her. It’s a strange feeling, to be made vulnerable by something so carnal and natural. But everything about Cora makes me vulnerable, and I don’t entirely hate it.

I take in her scent that lingers with mine.

“Giroth?” she asks, tired blue eyes searching my face.

“Yes?”

Her frown deepens. “What will happen to the others?”

The question throws me off guard, and I glance away for fear of revealing my own apprehension. I recall succinctly the talk King Asmodeus and I had regarding the Ur’gin method for breeding, and I’m loathed to answer.

She continues in a whisper. “I just want to know that they’ll be taken care of, like you have taken care of me.”

“I don’t think it’s that simple,” I admit.

“I know,” she says in turn, tracing her circles again. “I just want to hope that things aren’t going to be as bad as I imagine they will be. It’s terrible enough that it was my own sister who betrayed us. You know, I saved her when we were young. She was just a toddler, and the dark elves had killed our parents in front of us.

“They were going to kill us too, but their commander ordered for them to take us, instead. He said that—for a human—I was tough, and maybe when we grew up, we’d be useful to them.” She lets out a little breath before continuing, and I can feel the pain in her voice. “I never knew I’d come to regret saving her.”

“This isn’t your fault,” I assure her. “If anything, it’s mine.”

“You were just doing as you were told,” she says, unable to look me in the eye. “And after seeing your ‘King’, I get it. He’s terrifying.”
