“You’re going stir-crazy, huh?” he asks.

“I want to run.”

He leans against the side of the house and folds his arms across his chest. “Go ahead.”

My eyebrows shoot up. “You’re supposed to be reeling me in…making me stay.”

“That’s just Skylar. But he does seem very protective of you.”

My heart thunders in my chest, the noise drowning out the foreign sounds of the desert in my ears.

“I’m just a job.”

Casey doesn’t say anything, just looks out into the darkness. “I’ve done a lot of jobs and I’ve never looked at those clients the way he looks at you.”

I stand there on the rickety porch looking at nothing but midnight and feel myself exhale.

“I need to destroy something. I need to wreck it. Turn your back and let me leave.”

“Can’t do that. Don’t want to end up dead,” Casey says with a small smile.

“Fuck. This,” I breathe and then shake my head, my fingertips digging into the wood so tightly that I feel splinters begin to slide under my skin.

“You know what? I got an idea.”

My heart thumps in my chest as I turn to look at his shadowed face. “Yeah?”

“Yeah. Come on,” he says and then leads me down the stairs and into the darkness. “There’s a trailer out back. We can smash some shit.”

“Yeah. Okay. Let’s do it,” I begin, but before we round the corner, Skylar appears in the doorway, his form blocking out all the light.

“What the fuck are you two doing?” he asks, his voice low and dangerous.

My cock instantly perks up. Oh, he seems mad. So fucking angry.

Let’s play.

“Just letting him outside,” Casey states calmly.

“The fuck you are,” he growls as he lumbers down the stairs and grabs on to my arm. His grip is tight and punishing as he pulls me back into the house, his voice low as he tells Casey that he will speak to him later.

Casey seems to brush it off like it’s no big deal before I’m pulled into Skylar’s room and the door is slammed shut.

“What the fuck were you thinking?” he asks, pushing me against the wall and pressing his body into mine.

“I needed to get out!” I hiss and then shove against his chest, feeling that itch start to burn.

“You don’t go out. Not until we find Elio and he’s put down.”

“Casey would have let me,” I retort, which only seems to make Skylar’s already murderous mood plummet.

“Casey’s a stupid shit.”

“And yet you recommended him for the job.”

“I regret that now,” Skylar says as his hand wraps around the front of my neck. My breathing grows uneven, my fingers sliding up his arms to grab on to his shoulders.

“Why do you regret it?” I ask as he presses further into me. I can feel the puffs of his breath against my cheek.
