“K.” My acknowledgement echoes through the ajar door as I observe how revealing my bathing suit is. The one piece is form fitting, cutting into a deep V, revealing plenty of cleavage. It swirls in greens and blues, like clouds do when the wind whips them into a wheel that dances across the sky. A pair of cream shorts slip over my swimsuit, and an emerald, green tank top. Flipping my hair up into a bun, I deem myself ready and head back to the kitchen, wondering where Jaxton changed. I expected him to come back to my room.

When I entered, he’s already changed, eyes locked and roaming over my body with hunger. “Mm… you look scrumptious, Kitten.” His voice is deep and rough, almost a growl.

“Thanks.” A blush raises to my cheeks. “Where’d you go? I thought you’d come in to change.”

A naughty smirk tips his beautiful lips. “Come here.” The command immediately propels me forward until I’m standing between his splayed legs. His hands settling on my hips, pulling me closer until I’m looking down on him. “If I glimpse another inch of this soft skin, we’ll be stuck here fucking all night. No hike. No swim. Dad doesn’t get dinner. All the things.” While he speaks, he devours me with his eyes. The intensity of imaginary fingers trailing across every inch of my skin is shiver inducing, which only causes him to curse and growl. He stands suddenly, but doesn’t let go, gazing into my eyes. “Bad, Kitten.” He swoops in and kisses me deeply, but it’s over just as abruptly. “You ready?”

“Mm… huh?” Brain meets mush.

He chuckles, “It’s going to be too late in the day to swim if we don’t head out now.”

“Yeah, let me…” I’m cut off by a shrill ringtone.

His body stiffens as he pulls his warmth away. “I’ve got to take this. Excuse me.” He moves quickly, taking his phone call outside. His hello is gruff, annoyed. I’d like to say that I’m not snooping when I busy myself with folding my towel on the table closest to the windows, but I totally am. “I told you I took the rest of the day off. You can finish this part without me.” He pauses, listening. “I’m not going to tell you again. No.” He hangs up the phone, his hand raking through his hair, frustrated.

I stuff the last item in my bag as he walks back into the room. “Everything all right?” I pretend that I’m not an eavesdropper.

“Yep. You ready?” There’s an undertone that wasn’t there before the call.Who was on the other end?

“Yeah, let’s go.”

I lead the way and pull the front door closed behind us, locking it. He opens the passenger door for me, tucking me safely inside before closing it and walking around to his side. His eyes track mine the entire time, a predator stalking its prey.

Once he slips inside, he turns to me. “Where to?”

“Did you see the sign for the lake when you came into town?”

“Yes.”

“The sign marks a day use area that we can park in. The trail is toward the back end of the lot.”

Once we’re on the main road, he reaches over and laces his fingers with mine, driving one-handed. I bite my bottom lip, a blush crawling up my neck and face as he glances at me with a cocky smile. His thumb softly strokes my palm, eliciting an entirely unfamiliar sensation.

We pulled into the parking lot of the lake a handful of minutes later, ending the erotic hand massage. There’re a few cars besides ours, so I point to where he should park, closest to the trail.

Once we’re facing the trail, Jaxton reaches over and removes my bag from my shoulder. “Let me take this.”

“Thank you.” I’m impressed with his manners. He’s sexy as hell and could probably talk me into doing anything. The giddiness pouring out of me is growing into hope. Leading us over to the log that marks my trail, I fess up. “Okay, so you know how I said we’re going hiking?”

He nods, “Yes.”

“We’re not going to hike on a trail. There is no trail. We might have to jump a few logs now and then, but it’s easy. You think you can handle it?” He’s in great shape. He proved that with his stamina during our sex marathon, so this hike shouldn’t be a challenge.

He smirks. “I think I’ll manage.”

“Good. Let’s go.”

I lead the way through the trees about fifty yards before we hit our first log. Jaxton hurries past me and holds out his hand, helping me over. I’m far from helpless. I’ve come here solo more times than I can count, but that doesn’t stop me from taking his hand. He follows behind me with no problem, placing one hand on the top of the log, swiftly hopping over it in one bounce. I smile to myself, watching his body flex, melting my insides. Our conversation never lags. We talk about the foods we like, places to travel, and places we’ve gone. I elaborate about my gardening and how I want to turn my hobby into a backyard design business. My yard being the showcase and what plans I have for it.

Before we know it, the quick trip to my private place has ended. “Here we are.” I hold my arms open, displaying the scenery like I’m the host of a show.

“Wow, I’m impressed.” Surprise thickening in his voice.

“What? You think I wouldn’t deliver?” I joke.

Jaxton grips my hand in his as we watch the lake reflect the sun, shining like a mirrored surface. A tall maple tree sways like a dancing hula girl in the light breeze. Her branches hang over the water, casting shadows that flicker across the land. The green leaves flicker as they glisten off the sun, shimmering with the breeze. Little yellow flowers sporadically cover the hillside, displaying themselves like a meticulously kept garden.

“No, but this is better than I expected.” He lets go of my hand to secure me to his side as we approach the water.
