“I trust you and your instincts. For all intents and purposes, you’re my manager. Get over it.”

“I’m your best friend and have your best interest at heart. That doesn’t make me your manager.” Mark’s expression turns thoughtful. “Seriously though, you need someone who can represent you if you get an offer for a contract. Someone who can deal with lawyers and understand what you’d really be getting into. Someone who will fight for you and your future.”

“I know, I know.” I shrug. “I’ll talk to Amelia this week and see who she recommends. She’s had a few people who were discovered so I’ll see what she has to say.”

“Good.” Mark stands and pulls me to my feet. “Let’s grab our shit and head back to the Rose so we can get some sleep.”

Twenty minutes later, we’re back in our room at the casino. This is one of the perks of working with Amelia. She makes sure we have a room for the duration of our stay as long as I’m performing. Hot showers and a nice comfortable bed to stretch out in are great, but sometimes I miss the peace of sleeping under the stars. The lights and sounds of Vegas get to be too much every once in a while, so I’ll take a break on my nights off and go camping in Stella. Most of the time, Mark joins me but sometimes, we need a break from each other, too.

But not tonight. Tonight, I want to soak in a hot bath and lay my head down on a soft pillow.

I rollout of bed around noon, jump in the shower, and when I leave the room, Mark is still sleeping. Luckily, the restaurant where I’m meeting Kyle, Mara, and Sydney is around the corner, so I don’t have to drive in the never-ending traffic on the strip.

It’s a hundred degrees today, and I’m a sweaty mess by the time I reach Dobb’s.

Dry heat my ass… hot is fucking hot.

Mara and Sydney are sitting at a table in the corner, and they wave me over. I take a seat across from them.

“Hello, ladies.”

“Hey, Apple,” Mara greets. “Do you know why Kyle wanted to meet with all of us?”

I guess we’re jumping right in.

“Yep, but I think Kyle should be the one to explain.”

“That sounds ominous,” Sydney says as she looks over the menu.

“Keep an open mind,” I suggest. “I think he has a good idea, but it only works if we all agree. If you two don’t like what he has to say, no harm, no foul.”

Sydney tosses the menu onto the table and crosses her arms over her chest with a scoff.

“Don’t mind her,” Mara taunts. “She hasn’t got laid in a week so she’s grumpy.”

“Fuck off. I don’t have dick on tap like you do,” Sydney grumbles.

“Ah,” Mara says with a sigh. “And what a fine dick it is.”

“Eww, gross.” I gag. “Let’s not talk about Mark’s dick. He’s like my brother, and that’s not a picture I need stuck in my head.”

“Whose dick are we talking about?” Kyle asks as he pulls out a chair and sits.

My cheeks burn, and I glare at Mara and Sydney, who are laughing. I don’t even know why I’m embarrassed. I wasn’t even the one talking about sex.

“Mara was telling us about all the times she’s fallen on Mark’s cock, and Sydney was jealous about not being able to find a cock of her own to jump on,” I explain and smirk when the girl’s mouths drop open simultaneously, and their eyes bulge.

“I don’t know anything about Mara falling on Mark’s cock, but, Sydney, I can help you out if you need one to jump on,” Kyle teases.

“No, thanks. How the fuck did we even get on this topic?” Sydney fires at us before focusing her attention on Kyle. “What’s this impromptu meeting all about?”

“Calm down. I was just messing with you,” Kyle counters. “I mean, you’re sexy as hell, but I don’t shit where I eat.”

“I think what Kyle is trying to say is that he would never want to disrupt our working relationship,” I explain and raise my eyebrow at Kyle, daring him to contradict me.

He bobs his head in agreement. “That’s exactly what I meant. Sorry, shouldn’t have been an ass.”
