Page 49 of Wrathful Malice

Weird.

Their interaction is odd, but who am I to judge? If he says I need all four, then I’ll get all four.

“Why replace all of them?” Mark asks when I don’t.

“It would be easier to replace everything, and this way, you know all the wires are new,” Frenzy says. “Since I have to order them, it’ll be a while before she’s ready to go.”

“What’s a while?” I ask, doing my best not to look at Malice for his reaction.

“Two weeks.” Frenzy shrugs. “Maybe longer.”

Fuck.

I glance at Stella and immediately know what I have to do. I don’t have to like it, but that seems to be how things are going lately. Mind made up, I smile at Frenzy.

“We’ll wait.”

“You can’t be serious.”

I keep my eyes trained on the big screen TV on the wall but tune out the newscaster at Soul’s frustrated tone. He answered a call from Jez a few minutes ago, and his mood has declined ever since.

“I get what you’re saying, and I agree, but I have to think about the dynamics of the clubhouse.” He pauses and then stiffens. “What could possibly be more important?”

Oh shit.

“Yeah, fine,” he snaps. “Do you need me to send someone over or can you manage to get them here?”

Aw, hell. Who’s coming here? It better not—

“I’ll have one of the bunnies make sure the rooms are ready.”

He lowers his cell and stabs a finger at the screen to disconnect the call before shoving it into his cut pocket. Then he swivels his head to face me, and the look on his face does not bode well for whatever he just agreed to.

“Good news, Mal,” he says, and his forehead wrinkles. That damn worry crease gives him away every time.

“You can’t bullshit a bullshitter.” I turn the TV off to give him my full attention. “What’s going on?”

Soul heaves a sigh. “Apple is gonna have to stay here until her van is fixed.”

Okay… that’s not so bad.

“And that’s not a good thing?”

“Mark will be here too,” he says.

“No,” I bark.

“No?”

“Did I stutter?”

“Watch it, Malice,” Soul seethes. “I know we’re best friends, but I’m also the club president. There are some things you just don’t have a say in.”

I shoot to my feet, and he does the same. We stare each other down, neither of us willing to back off.

“I might not get the final say,” I capitulate. “But if there are going to be two new people living here, it should be voted on.”

Soul pulls his cell out again. “Fine. I’m not calling everyone in for church, but I’ll do a text vote.” He glares at me. “Does that work for you?”
