“No doubt on purpose,” Aden adds as his gaze drifts to the window.

Saige is still firing. She’s still missing, but that has everything to do with all the tension in her shoulders. A tension that wasn’t there when Aden was with her. Her form is good.She’sgood.

For several seconds, we watch her in silence.

“She’ll stay out there all day if we let her,” Aden eventually says.

I nod. “She wants the fucker dead. Can’t say I blame her.”

“How’s your project going?” Dariel asks.

Ah. The project. The one I’ve been hiding from Saige under the guise of dealing with contractors.

“Slowly,” I admit. “I’m not learning as much as I thought I would.”

“You should ask the cop for help.” Dariel pauses. “If he survives this.”

A slow smile stretches across my lips. “You think he won’t?”

Dariel doesn’t smile back. “I think between Rylan and your thoughts on cops, there’s a strong possibility he won’t.Don’tkill him.”

I paste an innocent expression on my face. “Me?”

He pins me with a hard stare.

I let my smile fall away. “I notice you haven’t talked about what exactly happened with you and Saige in your bedroom.”

He looks away. And for Dariel to look away first? An alpha? Alarm bells ring loud and clear. “She hugged me.”

I raise my eyebrow. “She hugged you?”

Aden nods as if it makes perfect sense. “She wanted to comfort you. No surprise there. What happened next?”

A long silence. “I kissed her.”

“And sheletyou?” I arch my brow, recalling the tension from her refusal to make him cocoa.

Dariel swallows and nods. “She did.”

He’s staring down at Saige. I can’t read his expression, but he’s thinking about that kiss. He wants her. Now. We’ve been together long enough—years—for me to know all the signs.

“And then?” Aden prompts.

“My wolf wanted out.” Dariel pauses. “I lunged at her.”

I whistle between my teeth. “Dude, your wolf is all kinds of fucked up.”

Wrenching his attention from the window seems to take visible effort as he rakes a hand through his hair. “It didn’t feel like my wolf wanted to hurt her.”

I stare at him. “You spent the next thirty minutes howling and charging the door, and you tell me you didn’t think your wolf wanted to hurt her?”

A long pause precedes an even longer sigh before he massages the back of his neck. “I don’t know.”

Unlike Dariel, to be so uncertain.

Thank fuck I killed the bitch who did this to him.

“How does the man feel?” Aden asks quietly.
