He frames my face with both hands. “You have no idea how long I’ve dreamed of this.” He lowers his head and kisses me once more. “God, it’s even more than I thought it would be. So much more.”

He leaves me kiss drunk. I hadn’t thought such a thing was possible as I stroke my palms over his back and wrap my legs around his hips, so he sinks more of his weight into me. His hands glide down my arms, find my wrists, and lift, pinning them over my head.

Nathan is trapping me under his body, his hands forcing mine down as I fight to break free, but I can’t. How can I break free from a shifter? Impossible.

My heart lurches, my eyes fly open, and panic is a sharp, acrid taste in my mouth.

Harley breaks the kiss instantly, releases my wrists, and peers down at me with eyes swimming in concern. “Jane?”

I stare up at him. I’m breathing too fast, but I can’t slow it.

“Saige?”

My name falling from his lips is so strange when I’ve gotten so used to being his Jane.

It does the trick, pulling me from the panic yanking me under.

I swallow and lower my eyes from his to rest my gaze on his jaw. “Sorry. It happens sometimes. I just…” I let my voice trail off because this is another moment I’ve broken because of a past I wish would hurry up and die.

“I’d boop you.” His fingers find my chin and tilt my head up. “But I have a feeling this isn’t the time or the place. What do you need?”

How have I found someone like you?

I touch his face, amazed. He came into my life when I wasn’t ready for him, and he found his way back to me when I was. “For you not to stop.”

“Saige…” There’s a world of need in his husky voice.

I draw his face down to mine, kissing him softly.

He sighs into my mouth, kisses me for a second, and then rolls us. Suddenly, I’m straddling him.

“Harley?” I ask, blinking down at him, confused.

“I thought we could do a little better than not stop. How’s this?”

A smile teases my lips. “Better.” It soon fades. “How could I let you go?”

He slides his palm under my hair, around the nape of my neck. “I don’t know. But promise you won’t do it again. It’s almost impossible to fix hearts with a shattered one.”

My eyes burn. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to—”

His fingers dig into the nape of my neck, drawing my head down. “I know why you had to do it. It hurt, but I understood.”

My lips find his. Soft. Sweet. Exactly right.

When his hands grip the bottom of my shirt, easing it up, I help. And then it’s off and I’m straddling Harley in just a pair of pink panties.

He looks up at me as if I’m wearing Victoria’s Secret, his hands skimming over my waist and small breasts. Or as if Iama Victoria’s Secret model. As if he doesn’t see the scars lining my throat, on my arms… everywhere.

And he smiles up at me, so handsome I struggle to believe he’s mine. “You’re a real sight to behold, Saige Leo.”

I’m not. I know I’m really not. But he says it like he believes it, so I want to believe it too. Even if he’s handsome enough to be with someone like the beautiful blonde Olivia with the bright, perky smile and the unscarred arms and neck.

Harley’s fingers dance closer to my face, hovering near the tip of my nose, the threat implicit.

I bite back a laugh. “Don’t you dare boop me.”

He smiles against my lips, his hand on my nape holding me there. “Kiss me and I won’t.”
