“You will eventually find me,” I agree. “I’ll be with Nathan.”

After what I did to him, and after what I did to Felix, hell—if it even exists—is where I will eventually end up.

Rylan is silent for a beat. “You wouldn’t.”

I tighten my hold on the phone. “You have no idea what I’m capable of, Rylan. I have you to thank for that.”

The kitchen is so quiet, it’s like no one is even breathing.

“I have your friend. You wouldn’t.” Rylan sounds smug, assured. He’s confident he’ll get everything he wants.

I don’t care that he’s an alpha, and they always win. No matter what I have to do, he won’t win this time. He’s never hidden his obsession with me. I don’t know when it started, but it’s felt like it’s always been there. Just how deep does it go? Because there’s only one way to get Sam back.

“Then I’d say you have an important decision to make. You can play your sick games with Sam, or you can have me. But you can’t have both.” I do the only thing I can to save her, because you don’t reason with a man like Rylan. And you never let him see how badly you want something he has.

I end the call.

As I put the phone down on the table, I hope to hell I haven’t just signed Sam’s death away with this game of chicken. Who will blink first, me or Rylan?

I stare at it.

I think we all stare at it.

One second ticks into two, three, four, five, s—

I jump when it rings, but I calmly pick it up, press the answer button and hold it to my ear.

He doesn’t sound like he’s smiling anymore. “Tomorrow night, you will be at the Lancaster Bridge,” he snarls. “If you are not there, Saige, the things I do to your friend will destroy her.”

He hangs up.

My hand shakes, thenallof me starts shaking.

Someone, I don’t know who, peels the phone from the clenched grip I have on it and takes it away. Someone else calls my name.

Maybe.

I’m tumbling down a black hole of panic so vast I can’t see, think, or even breathe.

CHAPTER 27

SAIGE

When I come to myself, I’m in Aden’s bed with my cheek resting on his chest. His arms are wrapped around my waist. The light streaming in through his window doesn’t give me a clue how much time has passed, but it’s no longer morning. That much I know.

What Idon’tknow is how the fuck we’re going to get through this with everyone in one piece.

“What time is it?” I ask.

Aden releases a slow breath of what sounds like relief and tucks me closer. “Five.”

Hours have passed, and I have no memory of it.

“Harley wanted to take you to the hospital,” Aden says quietly.

“Why?” I ask, frowning.

“He said he’d never seen anyone have a panic attack last that long before.”
