Why not create a few more?

I grabbed my second-skankiest dress off the hanger, grinning like a mad-woman as I pulled the fabric up my thighs.

I was going to make my bastard of a mate regret ignoring me, even if it meant flashing some of his people a little tit and ass.

All’s fair in love and war anyway, right?

Chapter5

The chaosand fighting had ended when I made it back to the throne room. Zoran was signing instructions to someone who was writing things down. I caught the tail end of something about being prepared in case Crest showed up to try to take over the kingdom again while we were in the Aboa.

I had remembered my conversation with Ivy as I walked back to the castle. Mainly, the part where she told me that if I didn’t think Zoran was possessive of me, I should test him by flirting with another guy.

The only time his possessiveness had ever shown itself was when I was mistreated, and those seemed like obvious situations in which if he didn’t react, people would take advantage of me further.

So no, I didn’t think he was possessive.

But after what had happened against my wall, I wanted to know so I could adjust my expectations. As far as I’d seen, all I could expect from him was friendship, and these new changes were throwing me off balance.

Partway through his conversation, Zoran’s eyes caught on me and narrowed. His hands halted, and I tossed one of mine in the air as a casual wave before I strode up to a small group of men and women. They seemed like the only option as far as people who were going into the Aboa.

There were four of them; two men, and two women. None of them were standing particularly close to each other, so I figured they were unattached.

Anyway, I was shitty at flirting, so I just sidled right up next to one of the men, letting my arm and hip bump into his.

His head jerked toward me, his eyes lighting with surprise.

“Sorry.” I gave him a quick smile. Though I had no control over it, I blushed, of course. It wasn’t like I’d touched many guys in my life. Being an awkward, school-obsessed kid didn’t lead to many flirty situations.

Zoran snarled from where he stood, and the man took a quick step to the side. He crashed into the other guy, but the other guy just grabbed him and held him upright as Zoran stormed over to me. He caught me by the waist and threw me over his shoulder, gripping my thighs tightly.

I grinned against his back as he remained where he was for all of three seconds—until he looked down at my ass, and realized why I’d picked this outfit.

Another snarl escaped him as he stormed out of the throne room, lifting his hands to my backside to cover me as he went.

I’d schooled my expression back to calm when he dropped me on my butt on his bed, glaring down at me. His chest was still rumbling in anger, and his fists were clenched. Water moved around them, climbing his arms and hands in agitation.

That was new.

I’d never seen him lose control like that before. Like the water was reacting to his emotions.

His jaw was clenched, and since he didn’t say anything, I waited.

If I spoke first, all I’d do was offer incriminating evidence against myself. I really wasn’t great with being sly.

So I crossed my arms over my chest, and watched him.

He slowly worked his jaw, unclenching his fists over the next few minutes. Finally, he lifted his hands and signed harshly, “What the hell are you wearing?”

I feigned surprise and looked down at myself before looking back up at him. “This is what all of the water fae women wear.”

His jaw clenched again, even tighter, and he signed back, “You’re not a water fae.”

My humor vanished. “Yeah, all of you have made thatveryclear.”

“I told you to put on something that covered you, Cier. I cannot control myself right now.”

“And I told you, you’re my mate, not my boss. I still haven’t heard you ask me anything nicely, Zoran. And this whole thing where you order me around after literally avoiding me for multiple months? It doesn’t work for me.”
