Margo updated me after they’d killed Crest, and I did feel better after that, so my stress eased as we headed back toward her castle.

“They’re here,” she said, flashing me a small grin. “Told you not to worry.”

“I wasn’tsuperworried,” I said, though it was mostly a lie.

Even though I hadn’t doubted them, I still worried for them.

Her grin widened.

I sighed, and she laughed.

Two tall men strode down the stone streets of the city, and my stomach clenched when my eyes collided with Zoran’s.

Damn, he was gorgeous.

His lips curved upward slightly when he saw me, but there were circles beneath his eyes. I knew he had to have drained himself with all the transporting we’d been doing, and it showed.

The guys reached us and Zoran pulled me into his arms, hugging me fiercely.

My fear settled as I inhaled his scent, and my tension dissipated as my arms went around his middle too.

“Got it taken care of?” I asked him quietly.

“Yes.” The rumble of his voice and chest made me happy, like always.

I wanted to ask if he was sure he’d be alright to stop at Storm’s house, but I knew he would say yes even if he wasn’t, so I didn’t bother.

And anyway, without Crest around, there was no one left in our kingdom to threaten him. At least not as far as I knew. Some of the people might’ve still hated me, but they loved him.

If there weren’t any threats, there was no reason for him to save his energy or anything.

I turned around in Zoran’s arms to see Margo, Quake, and Granite again. My mate kept ahold of me, but his hands found my waist instead.

Considering that Zoran still needed to spend some time on the beach for Crest’s funeral, since he was family, I knew we needed to get moving.

“Thanks for the pastries and the help with our problem,” I said, giving them a quick smile.

“Any time.” Quake grinned at me, and Zoran’s grip on my waist tightened as he stepped closer to me, so his body was pressed against mine.

I bit my lip to stop myself from smiling.

That had been a knee-jerk reaction to Quake’s friendliness.

Apossessiveone.

Along with everything he’d said and everything that had already happened, it was more than enough confirmation that he’d been telling the truth about that possessiveness.

“I’ll get Ivy to plan a girls’ night,” Margo promised.

“I’ll be there.” I flashed her a smile.

Zoran released me long enough to sign to me, “Please tell Granite that we’d be happy to teach him sign language if he wants another avenue of communication for the days the pain in his throat gets too bad.”

I blinked.

My heart swelled.

Zoran was just a really great man. It hadn’t even occurred to me to offer.
