After centuries alone, I’d finally found the woman fate intended for me…

And I would never let her go.

Epilogue

Granite

I sat on the couch, trying not to move too much. The less I moved, the easier it was to forget about my pain.

And the more I moved, the more I despised my magic, and my life.

“Here.” Margo set a plate of food on my knee, flashing me a grin. “Ayla and Zoran cooked. It’s surprisingly delicious.”

I glared at it.

Eating would hurt.

It always hurt.

Then again, what didn’t?

I slowly picked up one of the finger foods on the plate. If I didn’t move my back, the pain was manageable. Or at least bearable.

Ayla and Ivy were chatting next to the table of food.

If she had really cooked, it’d offend her if I didn’t eat, and they’d been kind to me. Learning sign language could save me from a little of the pain, and I needed her and Flood to teach me, so I was going to have to eat it.

I lifted the food to my lips and then forced it down.

Itwasgood.

I lifted another one to my mouth, and my gaze flicked to the staircase as I felt three sets of feet appear on it.

Though I didn’t recognize the people on the stairs, having never met them, I knew who they were.

The tiny blonde woman with curly hair was Harper.

The large man with long, dark hair was Storm.

The little girl in his arms, with her face hidden against his neck, was Dissiri. Some of them called her Dove, but they were all like family.

Nicknames were an intimate thing between a male fae and a female he wasn’t related to, so Quake had told me not to call her by her nickname, to avoid making Storm see me as a threat to his niece who was basically his daughter.

For whatever reason, my eyes lingered on her.

Theoretically, we had the same magic. Quake had told me that there was a chance she could take my throne, if she wanted it, so I needed to be kind to her to prevent a war in the future.

Her magicdidfeel strong, even from across the room.

I ate something else, still unable to look away from her.

She turned her head slightly, and her eyes caught on someone. Flame, I thought.

Her gaze brightened, and she lifted her head slowly away from Storm.

Flame held his hands out to her, and she whispered something to Storm. He still looked slightly concerned, but he set her on her feet.

Though she was looking at the fire king, I saw her whole face.
