She glowers at me. “You sound like my mom right now,” she mutters.

“Hurtful,” I groan.

“Yeah. Well stop saying shit like her.”

We ride to the bar and when we pull up outside, the music is pouring from it and there’s a long line, most of them men by the door.

I take a deep breath and my eyes turn to Gemma. “Are you sure I should do this? I’m not sure if it will even work. And there’s a lot of guys here.” I eye a few in leather jackets, including a blond-haired man that seems to have caught Gemma’s attention. “Some of these guys look a little rough.”

She snorts and her eyes dart away. “It’s just a bar and they’re just men. Don’t worry about it.” But I see her eyes widen when a huge guy walks out of the door and starts moving guys around. He’s broad-shouldered and built like a fucking mountain. And not one of those guys messes with him.

“It will be alright.”

I open the door and let it close behind me, tugging the little skirt down in the back. I take a deep breath. “Let’s do this.”

She smirks. “Give me your phone.”

“Why?” I raise a brow.

“How am I going to call him?”

“I don’t have his number.” She takes my phone and punches in something and then holds out a listing for a Sam Vernon in town. “He has a landline. That’s so old school,” she chuckles.

I roll my eyes and we walk in the door and the immediate volume inside makes my head ring.

And I wish to god we hadn’t done this because about fifty guys are turned looking at me and I can’t help thinking about that damn red bra right now.

It’s kinda like waving a steak in front of a dog. And I’m pretty sure I’m the steak.

I step forward and immediately feel my ankle twist and almost land on my ass.

Pinwheeling my arms, I grab onto a table and the guy at it smiles at me and lifts his beer. “Wanna drink?”

Flushing, I bite my lip. “That’s very nice of you…but no.”

He takes a big sip and his eyes stay locked on my red bra where you can barely see it. I back away and Gemma steps in between us, smiling. “Let’s go, Lil. Don’t want to keep Sam waiting.”

She jerks at me and I almost land on the floor again. But then I straighten my spine and stroll through the place like I’m not about to shit myself.

“This was a bad idea,” I whisper to her.

“Who knew this many guys from town would show up for a wet t-shirt contest.”

I roll my eyes and grunt. “Yeah, who knew.”

Then they start lining girls up and I throw a look at Gemma, watching as she dials my phone. I see her talking as I’m shoved up on the stage, my number in front of me, held like a damn shield.

“Time to do this, Lily. You can do this.” And I drop the card to my hips as the cold water starts to make its way down to me.

It had to be cold water. Ugh.

It hits my chest and I gasp, losing my breath, my eyes widening. Hoots and hollers all around me and I’m not sure who’s more surprised. Me or the guy splashing me. But his eyes glaze over as he stares at my chest and I pray really hard that Gemma gets Sam here soon.

CHAPTER5

Sam

Ican’t believe what I’m hearing. “What the hell do you mean that Lily’s at a bar and she’s in trouble? What kind of trouble?”
