I hummed thoughtfully.

“That sounds very strange,” I started saying.

“Mr. Stefan seemed very eager to cooperate with me when we spoke at the conference.

Now, you say he wants to pursue other opportunities at this stage?”

My voice took on a tone of disbelief towards the end.

“I understand your disappointment, Mr. Cortini. However, Mr. Stefan's decision is final. He sent me to express his gratitude for your interest in our platform, but still, he insists on pursuing other avenues.”

No matter how angry I was, I still had to control my temper.

It wasn’t as if I could pull out a gun and shoot the representative and Mr. Stefan.

It wouldn’t place their fledgling payment platform into my hands.

“I respect Mr. Stefan's decision, even though it is not the outcome I had hoped for. Please send my appreciation for his consideration. I hope he won’t deny any future proposals or chances to work together in the future.” I said with a small smile.

My frigid countenance was nowhere to be seen.

“Certainly, Mr. Dante. I will pass on your appreciation and inquiry to Mr. Stefan. While I cannot guarantee his response, I will do my best to provide you with any feedback or insights that he may be willing to share.”

The representative looked eager to leave my presence, and if my mind was wrapped in slight confusion and a lot of doubt, I would have been amused at her expression.

“Thank you for delivering this news.” I nodded my head.

“You're welcome, Mr. Dante. I apologize again for any inconvenience caused. If that is all, I’ll take my leave.” She held onto her black folder more firmly.

“I wish you the best in your future endeavors. Should there be any changes or developments from our end, Mr. Stefan will ensure you are informed promptly.”

I hummed. “Thank you. Goodbye for now.”

And I nodded towards the door, expressing that she no longer had to endure my presence and could leave as she wanted to.

“Goodbye, Mr. Dante. Have a great day.”

The representative closed the door behind her, and my facial expression sank.

Mr. Stefan voiced concerns regarding the strategic alignment between our platform and my business goals.

He also believed it would be more advantageous for him to pursue alternative opportunities.

Bullshit!

My eyes darkened in anger.

Did Mr. Stefan take me to be a fool?

From being so eager to sign the contract with my company to suddenly refusing with the excuse of believing it to be more advantageous to pursue other alternatives, his excuse was lacking.

It was obvious that something was going on behind the scenes.

Something must have happened to change Mr. Stefan’s mind so abruptly.

I didn’t know what was going on, but I intended to find out.
