Time was of the essence, and the weight of responsibility rested heavily upon our shoulders as we sought a way forward in this unforeseen setback.

Vito clapped my shoulder.

“Don’t worry. I’ll still keep an eye out for other avenues. Something may pop up, and it might even be better than Mr. Stefan’s platform.”

“I’ll get our contacts to continue sniffing around. No matter what, we’ll still find out what’s going on.”

I gave a smile and stood up, clasping their shoulders in gratitude.

“Thank you,I miei fratelli.I’ll talk to mymadreand seek her advice.”

“That would be best. We can always meet up again to discuss this. It won’t do us any good to be rash and make mistakes as a result of it.” Kramaric advised, and I agreed with him.

No matter how much I didn’t like it, it was the better option in the end.

Rushing forward with no lead was tantamount to rushing forward toward one’s death.

“Now that we are done with that topic, there’s something we’ve been meaning to ask you.” I raised an eyebrow at the glance Vito and Kramaric shared.

“What is it?” I prompted them to speak.

Vito cleared his throat. “How are things between you and Angela?”

My other eyebrow joined the other in the sky.

“We’re fine,” I replied. “What exactly is the issue?”

“When are you going to tell her the truth about your family?”

I kept silent.

Kramaric scoffed while Vito widened his eyes in disbelief.

“Surely, you’re going to tell her, right?” Kramaric questioned.

A sigh escaped my mouth, and I leaned against the table, using my hands to support my weight.

“I know I have to, but…” I trailed off.

“But what?”

“I don’t know how she will take the news. What if she leaves me again? I only just got her back, not to mention that I have a son now. I had already missed three years of his life. I refuse to miss more.” I stated firmly.

“Any sane woman would leave.”

Vito snorted before complaining when Kramaric kicked his leg.

If I wasn’t aware of Vito’s personality, I would have probably shot him for running his mouth, but because I was, I waited, knowing he still had something to say.

Hopefully, it wouldn’t be something that would make me end our friendship by putting him in a body bag.

“But who said she was a sane woman?” Vito continued.

Kramaric and I stared at him in silence.

“I believe you should stop talking.” Kramaric snorted in amusement.

My lips also twitched, but I controlled myself to prevent my lips from quirking into a smile.
