I could discern the nervousness, disbelief, and reluctance etched on her face.
"Are you certain, Doctor?" Her melodious voice sounded uncertain.
"There are more experienced nurses than me who would be much better suited to take care of the patient."
"Nonsense! Don't sell yourself short," Dr. Evans replied with a smile.
"I have faith in your abilities, Angela. You are the best candidate for the job," he continued, deliberately avoiding any mention of my request.
I knew that Dr. Evans understood my intentions and wouldn't dare refuse me. As the hospital's owner, I had the final say.
I took note of the discomfort on Angela's face, and it only piqued my interest in her even more.
Unlike most women who would do anything to be with me, Angela seemed to want to avoid me.
I chuckled inwardly.
She was a mystery to me, and I was determined to unravel her secrets.
Many women wished to run into my arms, but she wished to do the opposite.
This time I wasn’t going to let her go.
As Dr. Evans finished speaking, I stood up and approached Angela.
"It's good to see you again," I said, offering her a smile.
"I hope you're willing to accept the job of being my father's nurse."

My heart swelled with love as I watched my son play with his toy, his little feet pattering against the hardwood floor.
