After making love in front of the fire, we curled up under a blanket, talking and laughing for hours. He told me stories of his childhood, his hopes and dreams, his favorite books and movies. I shared things I’ve never told anyone, dreams I thought would always remain locked away in my heart.

With Josh, those walls crumble. I feel safe opening up to him, trusting him with my heart, my body, my soul.

“Thank you for bringing me here,” I say, pressing a kiss to his bare chest. “This weekend has been perfect so far.”

“It’s my pleasure, sweetheart.” He strokes my hair, his touch tender. “I wanted to do something special for you. Somewhere we could get away from it all and just…be together.”

My heart swells at his thoughtfulness. At the way he looks at me like I’m the most precious thing in the world. “Mission accomplished.”

“Good.” He kisses the top of my head. “Because this is only the beginning. I have big plans for us, Pearl Faye.”

“Do you now?” I tease, propping myself up on my elbows to gaze at him.

“Mmhmm.” His eyes glint with mischief. “We have a whole lifetime of adventures ahead of us. But for now…”

He rolls me onto my back, pinning my wrists above my head as he lowers his mouth to my neck. A delicious shiver runs through me.

“How about another round?” he murmurs against my skin.

Heat pools low in my belly at his suggestion. At the feel of him pressed against me, hard and ready.

“Yes,” I breathe, arching into him. “Please.”

Josh chuckles, the sound vibrating through me. “Your wish is my command, darling.”

Then his mouth claims mine, hot and demanding, and I lose myself in his embrace once more.

The next morning, I wake up to sunlight filtering through the curtains and Josh’s arm draped over my waist. We’re both still naked under the sheets, our limbs tangled together.

Memories of last night flood my mind, bringing a flush to my cheeks. I’ve never been so thoroughly loved or given myself so completely to another person. Josh made me feel beautiful, desired. Like I was the only thing that mattered.

I turn in his arms to face him. He’s still asleep, dark lashes fanning over his cheekbones, lips slightly parted. He looks so peaceful like this, the usual intensity of his gaze softened by sleep. My heart swells at the sight of him. At the realization that this caring man is mine.

Unable to resist, I reach up and trace the line of his jaw with my fingertip. Josh stirs, his eyelids fluttering open. When he sees me watching him, a slow smile spreads across his face.

“Morning, beautiful,” he rasps, his voice thick with sleep.

“Good morning.” I brush a stray lock of hair off his forehead. “How did you sleep?”

“Better than I have in years.” His eyes are warm and tender as they meet mine. “You?”

“Perfectly.” I kiss the corner of his mouth. “Thank you again for bringing me here. This has been…well, magical is the only word I can think of.”

“You’re welcome. I wanted to give you a weekend you’d never forget.” Josh pulls me closer, his hand gliding down my back. “And we still have all day today. Is there anything you’d like to do?”

His question is innocent enough, but I detect the hint of mischief in his tone. The flicker of heat in his gaze. My pulse kicks up a notch as I consider the possibilities.

“I can think of a few things,” I say coyly.

“Oh really?” Josh rolls us over so I’m pinned beneath him, desire darkening his eyes. “Like what, exactly?”

His hands roam over my body, leaving a trail of fire in their wake. I arch into his touch with a quiet moan.

“I’d rather show you than tell you,” I whisper, looping my arms around his neck.

Josh grins. “Is that so?” he murmurs, lowering his head to kiss the sensitive spot below my ear. “Well then, I’m all yours, sweetheart. Show me whatever you’d like.”
