Giuseppe nods in agreement. "We’ve gone easy on you so far. That’s because we need to keep you alive until your Daddy shows up."

I smirk, kicking my leg out. "See this tracking device? Romeo knows exactly what you freaks are doing. This is all part of our plan."

Luigi roars with laughter. "It’s cute how he thinks we don’t know that."

"Right." Petrie snickers. "We wouldn’t have taken you if you didn’t have that tracking device on you. The entire point is to use you as a lure."

My brow furrows. "No. That can’t be possible."

"Be so kind as to tell us why." Giuseppe’s voice is deep and menacing.

"Because Romeo is using me as a lure. To get you." I furrow my brow.

Giuseppe marches toward me.

He grabs my skull, forcing my back against the submarine walls.

His eyes glower as evil sparks shoot into mine. "The Lucianos took the bedbugs out of Ryder, Cyan, and Enzo’s phones, but they overlooked one thing. We have many more bedbugs where those came from. Your tracker has a bedbug in it right now."

"How did you do that?"

Giuseppe smirks as he turns to his brothers. "We should show him the hive."

Petrie nods. "Great idea."

Luigi steps on the gas pedal of the submarine.

I holler like a drunken crack ho as the sudden movement slides me across the interior, crashing into a window.

The submarine zooms through the water, passing giant squid and school of orcas.

"Orca!" I yell, banging on the glass. "Sink the submarine."

Wait.

No.

If the orcas sink it, I’ll go down, too.

So much for all those goddamn news articles about orcas sinking yachts. Worthless creatures.

Crap.

"Hush." Petrie is getting annoyed. "We’re almost there."

The submarine zooms toward a small island.

A trapdoor opens on the top of the sub.

It connects to a hole in the bottom of the island.

When Giuseppe presses a button, a suctioning wind sucks us up into the island.

I’m breathless as I take in my surroundings. The damp soil clings to my feet as they sink slightly into the island’s wet sand. The scent of salt lingers heavily in the air, accompanied by the rhythmic sounds of waves crashing against the shoreline.

Tall, thin palm trees sway back and forth in the soft breeze, their rustling leaves creating an eerie melody. Vines creep up the trees, and exotic flowers burst forth everywhere, while the calls of local fauna echo all around, creating a haunting atmosphere.

An ominous sensation lingers, a feeling of danger lurking around every corner.
