“Come on. You knew what he did for a living.”

And then it occurs to me. If this is a list of all his accounts, I should be in it. I search for my name at the top of the long, sheet-like document, and after a few seconds, the record of my loan is pulled up. I see the practically ancient debt and the obscene amount I borrowed from Jett. Sighing, I’m about to close the computer altogether when I see the debt has been marked as paid.

“What the—”

Jett has my debt recorded as paid in full, and the date of payment was over a year ago. I freeze in place. He paid it for me. All of it. And that’s no small feat. But he still came to collect now, knowing full well his boss considers me a done deal. My mind reels. What is going on?

Footsteps move closer, and I quickly close the window, accidentally opening his documents folder in the process.

“Shit. No, go away.”

Scream-whispering at myself, I see I’ve pulled up his internal photos. There are pictures from decades ago when Jett must have been a baby, friends dressed in high school caps and gowns, and memories of long-gone pets.

I keep scrolling, lost in the images that lay Jett’s life out before me until I reach a single photo cordoned off by the date. It’s the most recent, and it’s just a picture of a simple gravestone. The name etched into the granite reads ‘Josephine Leigh Saladino.’

“Oh, no.”

Reaching a hand to my mouth, my chin quivers as tears prick the corner of my eyes. His mother? That’s awful. Oh, Jett.

And then another wave of realization hits me. He lost his mom. It’s why he agreed to front me the money, why he paid it off. My heart swells, and I’ve just closed the window and stepped away when Jett comes back from his phone call.

“Everything okay?” He raises his brows at me.

“Yes, I’m just worried about my mom’s appointment.” It’s not a lie, not really.

“Macy, she’ll be fine.”

Jett places a hand on the side of my face, and I lean into it. The smell of that same cologne swirls around me, and I step closer. Jett leans in, lowering his forehead to mine. I dive in, pressing my lips to his and pulling him into me.

He quickly takes the hint, and our kisses move from playful to passionate in moments. Jett reaches to the neck of the shirt as he tears the thing off me, sending buttons flinging onto the floor.

“Your shirt,” I mumble as our mouths continue to explore each other and Jett’s hands roam over me.

“I have plenty more.”

He lifts me into his arms, anchoring me to his hips where I can feel his erection rub against me. The thin barrier of his briefs is the only thing separating us. My heart hammers as the courage to try something new bubbles to the surface.

“Jett,” I swallow hard, “Please…fuck me. Do whatever you want.”

His eyes flare, and then the darkest grin graces his handsome face. Jett lets out a devilish chuckle and then tosses me over his shoulder.

“You’re in for it now, little dove.”

Chapter4

Jett

This woman is going to be the death of me. I carry Macy to my bedroom, bringing her down to taste her mouth and skin as I roam my tongue across her. When I plop her down on the rumpled sheets, Macy stares—a hungry, lidded gaze that has my cock twitching.

She’s asked for this, asked me to fuck her.

I can see her mask of “proper” fall away. Yes, Macy. Fall into this delicious darkness with me.

“Jett, please.”

Macy drags her hands down her body, squeezing the swells of her breasts. She’s not built like some Playmate or Kardashian. The gentle curves of her body are real and laid out before me like a goddamn feast.

Her hand dips between her thighs. I’m done for.
