“And for you?” The server asks.

“Same and a side of half a rack of ribs.”

Her eyes widen. “A side of ribs with your burger?”

“Yes,” Adrianna says simply.

She nods. “Okay, I’ll have your food out to you as quick as I can.”

Adrianna sits down next to Gav, much to my irritation. Gav looks amused by that as Eva takes the seat next to me.

“So, what brings you two into town?”

Gav shrugs. “Arch was bored, so we came for food.”

Eva raises a brow. “Bored already? Spring Break has hardly even started.”

I clench my jaw and give Gav a warning glare. “I’m easily bored.” My attention moves to Adrianna, who is sitting in silence, looking like she wants to be anywhere but here right now. “What movie are you going to watch?”

“We’re torn between Uncharted and The Batman,” Eva replies, completely oblivious to the tension between me and Adrianna. She’s the only one in the dark about us. “What would you pick?”

“Uncharted for sure. I’ve never been a superhero fan.”

Gav nods in agreement. “Yeah, same.”

“I think that’s what we’ll watch then, right, Adrianna?”

Adrianna nods. “It’s probably my preferred choice.”

“That’s settled then.”

The server comes over with the food and sets it down in front of us. Adrianna isn’t fazed by the amount of food on her plate, but she has an appetite like no one I’ve ever met, except for myself.

An awkward silence falls over the table as everyone eats, but Eva is the one to break it. “If you guys want, you can tag along for the movie.”

Adrianna glares across the table at Eva, and I’m pretty sure she kicks her under it, too.

Gav chuckles. “Thanks for the offer, but I’ve got a lot of wood to split this afternoon.”

“Yeah, I’ve got some things to do too,” I say, since Adrianna is coming round this evening and I intend to make her my marinara sauce and pasta.

Adrianna relaxes a little the moment I decline and we have a mundane conversation while finishing the rest of our food. I struggle to keep my eyes off of Adrianna and she struggles to look at me at all. I can’t wait to have her alone in my apartment tonight.

I humto myself as I stand over a pot of my marinara sauce.

Adrianna should be here any minute, and I’ve cooked her dinner. One time, I joked she might fall in love with me if she tried it. I can’t deny that I hope that’s the case. Her response was upsetting.

Lunch was awkward, but I’m thankful she sat with us. As while it didn’t take my mind off of her, it satiated the desire to spend time with her until tonight, just.

The bell to my apartment rings. My heart pounds a little harder as I turn down the stove, walking down the stairs to open the door. Adrianna is standing there wearing a little black dress that flaunts all her assets and enhances the tanned quality of her skin. “Hey, baby girl.”

Her cheeks blush. “Hey.” She’s holding a bottle of wine. “I bought this.”

I take it from her. “Perfect, we’ll drink it with dinner. Come on.” I lead the way into the kitchen.

“What smells so good?”
