“He told you that?”

“More or less.”

She takes a sip of her latte, her expression heavy with thought. “Did he provide any reason why?”

I give a slight shake of my head. “No, but I intend to find out what his motive is.”

Nina nods and a silence falls between us as she fidgets with a strand of hair. “Did he mention anything about Cathal? I believe they’ve become friends.”

I swallow hard, as the conversation about what he did comes to the forefront of my mind. It would break me to tell her that Isiah was the one to break them apart, so I stay quiet. “Didn’t mention him at all.”

Her shoulders slump. “I really think I loved him, Bella.”

I grab her hand and squeeze. “I know, but if he was worth it, he would still be seeing you.”

Nina shakes her head, her expression grim. “I guess, but it was so out of the blue.” She clears her throat. “One minute he can’t keep his hands off of me, and the—”

“—Wait, are you saying you had sex with him?”

Rage floods through me because if that man fucked her and left her hanging, I’m going to murder him. She, too, was a virgin.

“Yes, I was too embarrassed to mention it when he ditched me just after.”

“Motherfucker.” I clench my fists, wanting nothing more than to annihilate Cathal for hurting my sister. “If I ever run into him again, I’ll—”

“You’ll do nothing,” Nina snaps, glaring at me. “I’m a big girl. I can handle it if a man doesn’t want me.”

It takes all my inner strength not to mention that the only reason he doesn’t want her is because my asshole of a husband scared him off.

“Fine,” I say, trying to calm the anger rising within me. “What am I supposed to do about Isiah?”

Nina arches a brow. “You need to try and find out what exactly he plans to do. Do you think he’d try to kill us?”

I swallow hard, considering he basically confessed his love for me the night before last, it’s unlikely he’d murder me, but I have no idea what goes on in that warped mind of his.

“I don’t think so, but I couldn’t be sure.” I swallow hard. “But the hatred he has toward Dad...” I shake my head. “He might kill him.”

Nina pales slightly. “I may not like the man, but I don’t wish him dead. He’s our dad.”

“You might think differently if you knew what he’s involved in.”

“What is he involved in?”

My stomach churns with sickness at the thought of relaying the information I learned the night at Insignia. “He runs a pedophile ring, selling kids at an auction.”

Nina’s eyes go so wide they look like they’re going to pop out of their sockets. “Are you serious?”

I nod. “Insignia is where he runs it from.”

“That’s vile.” Her expression is one of pure disgust and shock, mirroring the way I felt when Isiah told me. She shakes her head. “I’ve always known he’s a criminal, but that goes beyond the bounds of a mafia leader, right?”

I nod. “Yes, Isiah found out and someone who works for him started the fire.”

She gasps. “He was behind the fire?”

“Yes.”

“How long have you known this?”
