I look around, knowing Bella could turn up at any moment and there’s no way I’d want her to know what I’m up to. “Yes. I also have another very important job for you, but it’s going to be tough.”
Jane laughs. “There’s no hacking job that’s too tough for me.”
“That’s modest.” I check my watch. “I’ll be there in fifteen.”
“Sure, no rush.”
I end the call and stow my mobile phone in my pocket, turning around to leave the flat when I freeze. Bella’s keys are on the hallway table, which means she is here and possibly heard my conversation with Jane. Her parking space was empty when I pulled up, so I have no idea where her car is.
Fuck.
I turn back around and head toward the bedroom, it’s the only place she can be. The flat is not a big place with an open plan living and kitchen area and one bedroom with ensuite bathroom. The moment I open the door, she practically falls out of the bedroom with an overnight bag slung over her shoulder.
I narrow my eyes. “Were you eavesdropping?” I ask, glaring at her.
Her face turns red as she shakes her head. “No, I had a shower and when I got out, I heard voices. I didn’t know it was you.”
“Bullshit. Who else would it be?”
“A burglar,” she suggests.
I sigh heavily, as she’s not being serious. “What did you hear?”
“I heard nothing but droning voices.”
I watch her face, trying to work out if she’s lying or not. It’s hard to tell. My eyes move from her face to the bag she’s clutching onto over her shoulder. “Why have you got an overnight bag?” I ask.
Her lips purse together. “I’m going to spend the night at home with Nina. She needs me and if I’m going to be leaving for London soon, then I want to spend some time with her.”
“And you hadn’t intended to tell me?”
She stands straighter. “I don’t have to tell you where I’m going.”
“Do you really believe that, Bella? We’re husband and wife. I deserve to know where you are, especially if you’re spending the night somewhere other than our home.”
Her eyes narrow. “Fine, I’ll tell you now. I’m going to stay with Nina for the night.”
I laugh as she’s not getting out of this that easily. “You had every intention of skipping out of here without saying a word, which means I need to punish you,” I say, stepping closer to her.
Her eyes narrow. “Don’t start that shit again just because we’re back in Washington.”
“What shit?” I ask, tilting my head. “You know you love it when I punish you.” I grab her hips and yank her against me, forcing her to drop the bag onto the floor.
My hands move up her body and I grab her wrists, pinning them above her head, as I lean forward, nipping her earlobe with my teeth. “You are being very naughty, Bella,” I murmur.
She shudders before me and I can feel the electricity building in the air between us. If she won’t be here tonight, I have to have her now and quickly because Jane is expecting me.
It’s insane how Bella can derail me so easily, as it’s vital that I put a plan into place with Jane as soon as possible to bring down her father and the other pedophiles running this ring.
“I’ll be late to meet Nina,” Bella says, her voice raspy as I continue to kiss her skin. I press my lips against the nape of her neck, trailing light kisses down to her collarbone.
“You know you need to be punished,” I murmur, feeling her tremble beneath me.
My mobile phone rings and I pull it out of my pocket, groaning when I see it’s Henry. “I need to take this.” I release Bella’s wrists and she moves away from me.
“Good, I’ve got to get going.”
I narrow my eyes at her. “If you are spending the night away from me, then I need to get my fix now.”
