I narrow my eyes at him. “Can’t say the same. You’re lucky I’m not murdering you on sight.”

His Adam’s apple bobs as he swallows, and he shakes his head. “I never meant to hurt her, it’s just…”

“It’s just you can’t handle the idea that she has struggled with mental health in the past?” I glare at him because my rage is building at being confronted with this asshole. “Clearly, you didn’t deserve her, anyway.”

His jaw clenches. “How is she?”

I shake my head. “You don’t have the right to ask.”

There’s sadness in his expression, but he doesn’t contest that fact. Instead, he nods. “No, I guess I don’t.” He turns to James. “Yes, let’s leave.”

James gives me a smirk as he turns away and leads Cathal from the truth, but I’ve got to admit I think they both deserve each other.

I turn away from the two men and head toward the bathroom. As I approach the door, I can hear muffled sobbing coming from behind it. When I open it, my eyes fall on Nina, who is standing in front of the mirror, crying uncontrollably. She turns to me and her expression crumbles further.

Fuck.

Cathal really did a number on her. I quickly close the door and rush to her side, wrapping my arms around her in a tight embrace. “I’m sorry, Nina.”

She takes a deep breath before pulling away from me slightly and wiping away her tears. “It’s not your fault. Just seeing him was hard, you know?”

I nod in response, imagining it would be difficult to see him, especially since she loved him and he broke her heart. “I know, but he doesn’t deserve you. I thought we established that?”

Her lips purse together. “Who am I kidding, Bella? It’s me that doesn’t deserve him. I’m too broken.”

Rage flares within me because that’s what she believes. “That’s bullshit. He’s the one who is broken for walking away from you like that.”

I can tell by the look in her eyes she doesn’t believe me.

“How was he?”

I shake my head. “I didn’t ask, and I didn’t want to know. I told him he was an asshole.”

Nina’s mouth drops open. “You didn’t, did you?”

“Of course I did. That man was an asshole to you.” I glare at her. “I should have threatened to kill him for what he did.”

She tilts her head. “You realize he’s the leader of the Irish mafia? He’d probably have to murder you if you threatened him like that in front of his second in command.”

I’m well aware of that, and it’s the main reason I didn’t give him a harder time. “Yes, but if it weren’t...” I shake my head. “He wouldn’t have left here alive.”

Nina laughs, wiping the tears from her face. “You don’t have it in you to kill someone.”

She’s right. Even so, it doesn’t stop me wanting to hurt the man who hurt my sister so deeply.

“What did he say?”

I purse my lips. “He asked how you were, and I told him he didn’t have the right to ask.”

“So, he mentioned me?” she asks, an irritating amount of hope in her voice, as despite all he’s done, I can tell she still hopes that he’ll come back and beg for her forgiveness.

“Yes, but that’s not—”

“Bella, just let me enjoy knowing that for a moment before you tell me how it makes no difference to what he did.”

I purse my lips together, as I know that Isiah was instrumental in breaking them apart. Perhaps Cathal was easily swayed to ditch her by his long-lost best friend and he really does still care for her.

“Fair enough. Have we done enough shopping for the day?” I ask.
