“Except I’m freaked out,” she muttered. “Anyway, where are you taking me, and who were you talking to on your phone while I was speaking with Trevor?”

“I was makin’ arrangements for a place to stay, though you’re welcome to stick it out in the motorhome if you want.”

“I’d love that, but I’ve got too much stuff.”

“I know,” he shot back with a wink, “and this place will be great for the two of us.”

“Oh, so it’s a package deal?”

“Yep, I come with the bed.”

She giggled, then leaned over the console and pecked him on the cheek.

“What was that for?”

“Because you’re the best. Uh…isn’t this the way to Ben’s?”

“Yep.”

“Do you need to see him for some reason?”

“To get the keys,” he said, shooting her a grin. “He has a guest cabin on the side of the hill above the barn with an amazing view of the valley. He rents it out as a vacation home and uses it for important clients who come in to buy expensive horses. Luckily it’s empty right now.”

“So he’s letting you rent it for a few nights?”

“I offered but he wouldn’t hear of it.”

“Rick, you’re a genius. We must find a way to thank him.”

“I’m sure we’ll think of something,” Rick said as he turned into a gravel road and headed up the slope. “I’ve never visited here durin’ winter, but I’d love to one of these days. I bet it’s incredible.”

As Bailey stared out the window at the breathtaking scenery opening up below, she realized she could see the paddock on Big John’s property where she’d found Miss Piggy, Lizzy and Cocoa. A short distance beyond on the other side of a line of trees was a house, a barn, and a few scattered outbuildings.

“I can see Big John’s place. It’s a nice spread. Too bad it belongs to such a horrible person. I see his truck driving up.”

“Don’t worry about him. I was just thinkin’ we should have stopped at The Tavern for something to eat before comin’ here.”

“Lord, no! I must have a shower and I need to get changed.”

“Actually, the drive up isn’t as long as I thought,” he remarked, pulling to a stop in front of a log cabin.

“Wow, what an amazing place. Is it very old? It looks like something you’d see in a history book.”

“He had it built to look like that.”

“I love it. I’m almost glad someone broke into my room.”

“Speaking of which,” he murmured as his phone rang and he stared at the screen. “It’s Trevor. He must have news. Hey, Trevor, I’m with Bailey and I’m puttin’ you on speaker. Did you find out anything?”

“We sure did, that’s why I’m callin’. Bailey, it was Big John who broke into your room.”

“Seriously? Are you sure?”

“There were clear prints on that window pane, and his are on record. They were a match. John Foreman has been arrested more than once.”

“That doesn’t surprise me, but I wonder why he wanted to get into my room.”

“Are you sure there was nothing missing?”
