“How did you do that?” she whispered breathlessly. “No-one catches me. No-one. I can’t let them. Not until…”

“Until what, Bailey?”

“I can’t tell you. It’s too risky.”

‘Risky? How is it risky? Tell me.”

“No. I’ve come too far.”

“You can trust me.”

“No. I can’t trust anyone. My dad always said, a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. You could let it slip.”

“I won’t.”

“You might.”

“Bailey, if you don’t tell me I’ll have to spank you. That will shift that stubborn streak.”

“You wouldn’t dare!” she snapped, trying to yank her hand from his.

But his grip was too strong.

Jerking her forward as he sat on the edge of the couch, he pulled her over his knee and spanked her upturned backside. He knew the thin tights offered little protection, but wanting to see her skin turn red, he started to yank them down. Though she cried out, he ignored her protest and continued to lower them until they were dangling around her knees.

“I’m spankin’ you until I hear what’s goin’ on!” he exclaimed, moving his flattened palm from cheek to cheek with hot, stinging smacks. “I mean it, Bailey.”

“You bastard…stop…”

‘’Nope, not until you start talkin’.”

“Okay, okay, I’ll tell you.”

His eyes popped open.

His heart drummed in his chest.

It had been so real…

Sitting with her friends at Billy’s Steakhouse, Bailey drank the rich red wine and laughed at their jokes.

But it was all an act.

Bailey, the happy, carefree girl, wasn’t happy or carefree.

Though she was an excellent trick rider, and she had moments of satisfaction when the crowd cheered, the riding, the rodeo, her life on the road, was a means to an end.

Bailey had a single goal, and she wouldn’t stop—couldn’t stop—until—

“Hey, Bailey, how are things with Duke?” one of her teammates asked, snatching her attention.

“Duke who?”

“Already? That was fast—even faster than usual. Who’s next?”

“Rick Campbell,” she replied, feigning a grin.
