Sullivan doesn’t give a shit. “Whatever. He’s hot. I’m going in.”

Christopher’s grin widens, and he looks positively gleeful when he announces, “Nah. Not anymore you ain’t. You have to wait. He’s a witness. His lawyer called me earlier today. We have a deal. You’ll never get your dirty old man hands on him.” Christopher cackles, wiping at his crocodile tears.

“Fuck!” Sullivan kicks the chair next to his.

Phan isn’t finished with him. He waits until Sullivan settles onto his seat, to deliver his final blow. “Guess who Rick’s lawyer is?”

Sullivan glares at him, his shoulders slump and he sighs dramatically. He’s acting pretty … hmmm …. bratty would be the word if Ty didn’t know him any better. Sullivan looks defeated as he lands forehead-first on a stack of reports in front of him.

“I don’t wanna know,” he declares with a muffled groan.

“Oh, you poor thing,” Phan coos, teasing him.

“Shut up,” Sullivan whines.

This shit is hilarious. Tayida can’t stop laughing.

Whatever Phan is doing to Sullivan, he wants in. The look on his face is fucking priceless.

Phan turns to Tayida wagging his eyebrows, “George Fucking Duncan, as in Big Daddy Duncan, as in Sullivan’s ex-boyfriend.” Phan draws and punctuates the end of the sentence with a Cheshire-shit-eating grin that has Sullivan losing his cool completely.

“George was never my boyfriend, okay? What we had was…asituationship,at best, okay?” Sullivan is trying to defend himself, but he doesn’t sound all too convincing.

“Wow, look at that big gen-z word coming out of your crusty millennial mouth,” Phan is really enjoying himself. “Of course, you’ll learn all the terms about‘ships’that require no commitment or accountability. If anything, I did you a massive favor, by reaching out to Georgemyself. That Rick guy would have been the end of you.”

“Fuck you,” Sullivan groans. “You’re evil Phan. He could have been my fucking soulmate. And now…Game fucking over.”

“If Rick Landon was truly your soulmate, thank fuck I saved us all from that shit show, cuz lord knows you are incapable of communicating clearly, trusting another person, or committing for longer than it takes you to eat a sandwich.”

Tayida has no idea who George is, but the last name seems familiar. Phan is flat out laughing right now, perfectly pleased to have ruined Sullivan’s plans. Ty imagines Sullivan probably does that to the lawyer quite often. This here seems like a well-planned revenge between old friends.

Christopher and Ty chuckle, sharing a moment, their eyes lock. A new understanding is passing between them, making both of them feel at ease. They’re on the same side now.

Phan shoves a box in Ty’s direction, “Help yourself, while this old chap nurses his broken heart.” He wags his eyebrows and cackles, unable to contain his delight at the sight of a very sulky Sullivan.

Phan has somehow procured a fresh box of hot donuts and piping hot coffee ready for them. The sight makes Ty laugh. It is clear this team of weirdoes are his only hope, and there is nothing left for him to do but to finally give in and cooperate.

This time he is happy to gulp down the strong coffee and indulge in the sugary treats. It turns out he desperately needs it.

Ty is two donuts in when Phan clears his throat to get his attention. “I’m sorry. I’m not gonna pretend I didn’t try to fuck you over. I did. It’s my job. I didn’t believe you were innocent, and I didn’t know what Rian’s involvement was. Now that I’ve spent months accumulating evidence, I can see how wrong I was about both of you. I’m sorry. Thank you for doing this. Thank you for trusting us, even if we didn’t start off right.”

“I get it, man, I really do. Truth be told, I’m not over it yet. But I know once we nail that motherfucker, I’ll be able to finally move on with my life. None of this shit will matter then. No grudges, okay? Let’s push through and give Harris Kelly the royal treatment he deserves.”

Phan seems relieved after that and they both put a lid on it for the rest of the night.

Tayida is trying to remain calm, but he checks for updates on Rian every twenty minutes anyway. He is relieved that no one is giving him shit for it.

Rian and Harris have taken a commercial flight, so they make it back hours after Ty and Sullivan have made it to Boston.

In all honesty, he simply wants to get to the house and shoot that fucker Harris right between the eyes and then hunt down his pet Lincoln and torture him until he fucking begs for the same fate. Killing them both won’t solve more than his immediate bloodlust and desire for revenge. Rian deserves so much better than this.

This is his own self-imposed quest for taking back his life. Avenging himself, Cyril, Cynthia, Sebastian and all the other nameless victims of Harris Kelly. Ri is convinced that unless he gets a confession out of Harris Kelly, good enough to land him in jail, he won’t ever stop looking over his shoulder fearing for their safety. Rian wants to fight his own battles, and although Tayida has spent countless days trying to convince him otherwise, Rian prevails, insisting this is something he simply must do.

Rian deserves a clean slate. A new beginning for their little family.

Tayida will give him that and more. Rian is his forever.

They spend hours going through every single scrap of information he and Cyril have uncovered.
