“How’s your back?” Rian teases him.

Ty cracks his neck. Rian cringes at the loud crunching sound, shivering as if he can physically feel the tension in Ty’s spine and the soreness of his joints.

Ty chuckles at his reaction, “Whatever do you mean? Sleeping on your second-hand Ikea couch is like sleeping on a cloud.”

Rian is shaking his head, laughing. “I told you to sleep in my bed.” Then his cheeks pink and he hastily adds, “I mean, I’ll sleep on the couch, and you can take my bed.”

Ty grins. “It’s okay. I know you have a lot of work around the holidays. I don’t want you to be all sore and cramped when you have to do your artsy shit.”

“Art is pain.” Rian grins back.

“You’re silly. I really don’t mind.” Ty beams back at him.

“Tough as rocks you are,” he mutters and laughs at his own joke.

Without thinking, Ty lifts his hoodie exposing his washboard abs, “Rock hard, indeed.”

Rian rolls his eyes and turns back to get his toast out of the little oven grill. He doesn’t look impressed, but there is that blush creeping back over his sides and on the back of his neck. Before Ty can overanalyze thisinnocentexchange, Rian tells him to get some cutlery out.

Rian has prepared two plates for them already – two pieces of his preferred wholegrain sourdough toast, and for Ty, he has prepared chunky vanilla waffles. It’s his all-time favorite. A bottle of thick salted caramel syrup is placed on the counter, along with a generous serving of cream and a small bowl of hazelnuts on the side.

There is no doubt, this feast is just for Tayida.

Ty loves it. Should he be embarrassed that this thoughtful gesture brings him a ridiculous amount of joy?

Tayida doesn’t care.

He preens at the attention and greedily inhales the scent of the piping hot treat that has been prepared just for him.

There is nothing too extravagant about the spread, but he feels so stupidly special. Tayida knows very damn well that money is tight at their home. Yet Rian has tried his best to make everything a little bit nicer. There is no doubt in his mind, Rian doesn’t eat like this when he is alone. Ty melts at the extra effort.

Ri is so kind and thoughtful. He doesn’t need to do any of this, yet he does it anyway because he knows this is something Ty will greatly enjoy.

“Is that all for me?” Ty asks him only a little bit choked. The stack is about ten inches high. It is more than generous.

Rian blushes profusely, tucking his hair behind his ear, “I’ll…I’ll have some too. It’s just, I wasn’t too hungry, but I know you…I just thought…” His flustered babbling is too cute.

Ty wants to grab him and squeeze him so freaking tight. And kiss him. Kiss him lots. Kiss his sweet flustered blushing cheeks and his strawberry lips.

“Thank you, this is perfect!” Tayida can practically inhale the caramel, so thick and delicious.

Diabetes-inducing poison is what Cyril would call this breakfast.

Fuck that.

Cyril’s wise words about nutrition are instantly forgotten.

Tayida is salivating as the enticing smells invade his senses, “I better smash through this stack. We don’t want the Grinch to catch a whiff of this goodness. I can already hear the harsh lecture he’s got prepared for situations like this.”

“Situations like what?” Rian laughs.

“Like people actually enjoying food.”

Rian rolls his eyes. “Yeah, well tough. We get to treat ourselves for the holidays. Those are the universal rules, according to Santa, okay? I’m not making this shit up. Cy can take it up with the big guy in red. I happen to know, that waffles are your favorite. Try to enjoy them without fear of repercussions. Bon appétit!”

“Oh, sugar, you don’t need to tell me twice!” Ty grins.

You’re my favorite. I love you. I love everything you do for me. You’re fucking amazing.
