CHAPTERFIFTEEN

Tayida – Ty – Beloved One

AUGUST 2022 -DISCIPLINARY BARRACKS, GODSHANDS

Tayida is nervous about his impending release date. There is always a possibility all of his plans could be ruined at the last moment and the dreadful anticipation is killing him.

Snap out of it– overthinking this shit is never a good idea. He should focus on the now, even if the past is still torturing his mind.

Thinking about Rian and catching a glimpse of him in an old magazine from the library is what stops Ty from going completely mad. Planning his next move once he steps past the gates that have kept him tucked away from society for the past four years keeps him busy enough.

“You daydreaming again?” Sullivan bumps their shoulders together, as he catches up to Ty roaming the hilarious excuse of a library, they were both scheduled to mop.

Ty gives him a faint smile, then turns his attention back to the magazine he is still holding. How fucking stupid is it that he doesn't want to leave it behind? Like if he does, he would be leaving Rian behind all over again.

Sullivan rolls his eyes at him, then gently pries the tattered issue out of his hands, folding it in half and tucking it under the waistline of the back of his pants, under his shirt. “I'll destroy it when you leave.” Ty turns to him with a baffled look on his face, one that his friend seems to thoroughly enjoy. Sullivan chuckles then takes a cautionary step back holding his hands up in placation. “You don’t want some dickhead jerking off to your pretty boy, do you?”

Ty groans and turns away from Sullivan, walking back to the trolley with cleaning supplies. “Some dickhead like you? You're fucked in the head, you know that right? Why would you even say that? Like I don’t have enough to think about.”

“Sorry, not sorry. Your man is pretty prime material for the spank bank.” Ty glares at him, then huffs, throwing his hands in the air. He turns his back on Sullivan and stalks away. It’s his last day, but this doesn’t mean he isn’t going to get shit for not finishing their scheduled tasks.

Sullivan laughs behind him, and yells out, “Just looking out for my boy!” He jogs to catch up to Ty, rubbing his shoulders aggressively.

Borderline assault is what his affection feels like sometimes. Ty shrugs him off, still too wound up and annoyed to laugh at his jokes.

Sullivan means well, but Tayida isn’t going to relax until he is well and truly out of this place. Even then...he won’t breathe easy until he has Rian safely tucked away, hidden from Kelly’s reach.

What if Ty was too late and Harris has brainwashed Rian? What if Rian is too scared to follow with his son in tow?

Ty shakes his head and forces himself to focus. He is going to do whatever it takes to convince him to leave.

Sullivan is giving him some space, dragging the buckets with murky water and the mops away from him and starting on the floor in the far corner of the library, near the windows.

Sullivan had worked hard to earn his trust. He had won Ty over, despite the fact, Ty never imagined he could get close to another person again. No one can take Cyril’s place in his heart, but with time, he learned how to make space for Sullivan.

The truth was Sullivan was nothing like Cyril and perhaps that was the reason why Ty was able to lean into their friendship. There was a strange sense of kinship between them.

A ‘lost boys’, kind of vibe. They both had a wagon full of issues and their minds seemed to be equally scattered all over the place on most days.

Tayida often felt revived by Sullivan’s explosive energy.

Sullivan appeared to relax around Tayida.

There was no one as good at scheming and getting what he wanted as Sullivan, yet he wasn’t really chummy with anyone else from the general population. Yeah, he practically knew everyone’s business – from their favorite cigarette brands to their secret sex liaisons with some of the guards. However, Tayida seemed to be the only one to get his genuine attention. The only one to have him around in his free time. The only one to see him fucking smile.

This type of loyalty, no matter how irrational it was, warmed him.

Despite his loud and crude sense of humor, there was something guarded about Sullivan. A quality to his character that really reminded Tayida of himself. Sullivan often used his words as a distraction, he internalized emotions, and he hid his true self behind a well-curated wall of misconceptions.

The persistent Alaskan native had wormed his way in. Even though their friendship wasn’t the same as the one he had shared with Cyril, he cherished their bond, nonetheless. The comfort of their companionship helped him hold his head above water on multiple occasions, and for that, he was beyond grateful to have Sullivan in his life.

Sullivan was a little bit older, and slighter than Ty, but oh boy could he throw a punch. He fought dirty too, and it was a sight to see him take down people twice his size. Some meatheads thought that just because he had no problem saying out loud and proud that he was into guys, he was also down for a shower orgy.

Sullivan’s a wiry, five-foot-five force of nature, in his late thirties, with burning black eyes, that could make anyone look away in haste if they were caught staring at him. And stare they did.

He was covered in tattoos from his chin to his knuckles, but his face is bare and the combination of sharp features, tar black eyes, thick dark lashes, and deeply tan skin, made him very attractive in a rough, raw kind of way. Like a walking, talking, red flag.

You looking for trouble? Step right the fuck in.
