The woman added, “Find comfort in the fact that you are not the only one to be bestowed this fate, and you will not be the last.”

Isla couldn’t breathe. She needed to find Kai. She needed to get out of there.

“Stay, Warrior Heart.”Now the distant voice called to her.“See and understand.”

“Tell me who you are,” Isla gritted, her voice wobbling as her eyes stung. As she felt Fate lingering in this place that was not a place, in every beat of her warrior’s, fighter’s, heart. In the thread she’d drawn from her soul to another.A direct line through his defenses.

Finally, the woman said,“The first of us.”

“The Luna of Ares,” Isla breathed, feeling like the piece of a puzzle had fallen into place.

“Andromeda,”she clarified.

Ares, Phobos, Deimos.

Three lunas, three queens cursed to…

To…

Isla needed to find Kai. Needed to get him out. Get him away from all of this.Now.

She closed her eyes and dug for the bond but only met resistance. A cold, dark shell of the man Isla loved more than anything.

“Let me go to him!” Isla shouted over the winds that had grown stronger. “This isn’t us, that isn’t him.”

Kai wasn’t Aneurin. Not a monster. He wouldn’tbecomethis even if their power was the same.

“Let us out!” Isla reached to her side for a blade that wasn’t there. “I get it! I see!”

“No, you don’t.”

“There has to be another way,” Saoirse cried, and Isla snapped her attention back to her. “If it’s a curse, why can’t we break it?”

“There’s not enough time to seek that answer,” Andromeda said. “Even in going into my own past, where it began, I can’t figure out how the power wasbestowed and how to eradicate it.” She closed the distance between them, her features cold, deadly. “You have already takentoo much time. The world is on the brink of collapse, and he’s grown too strong. If they get a hold of him, it’sover. The crown and dagger are your answers.Youare the answer, the only one who can wield them—Goddess-blessed, Goddess-chosen, soul-bound. You end it, Saoirse. Now.”

CHAPTER46

KAI

Kai needed to get the hell out of here, and he needed to find Isla.Immediately.

From the corner of the empty ballroom, he watched Aneurin peering through the stained-glass window as plumes of smoke from Pyres of the Fallen rose from his city to fill the storm-clouded sky.

He’d felt disgusted watching him tear through the continent, destroying everything he passed and losing the lives of so many wolves. But he was a man with all the power in the world, and nothing had come close to stopping him.

Agift—and Kai felt it in his own soul.

This “gift”, this power, this Goddess-damn curse.

Would he eventually end up just like Aneurin? Corrupted by this…thing, the entire world fallen to chaos by his own hand. The power clawed at him from within now, called him to use it,embrace it.Solve each one of their problems beyond this illusion.

This was what he had to see. Perhaps to understand what he stood to become. He needed to tell Isla, but how could he explain that he’d already been a monster? That it may have already been too late, and they needed to find a way to stophim.

“I am me because I am yours. I’m meant to take you, all of you, as what you are.”

Goddess above.

“Darling.” Aneurin turned with the word, sensing Saoirse with that power he’d cast across the entire palace before she’d even crossed the threshold of the ballroom.
