“Not really.” All of their conversations about him centered around Remi catching his eye. And about him having a girlfriend. Wait. Wasn’t he already in a relationship? Why was he looking at Brooke?

She shoved his shoulder. “Don’t you have a girlfriend?”

He stiffened. “Uh…”

That was a telltale sign that he was lying. Classic Colton. He turned from her, but not before she saw the guilty look on his face. Remi shoved him again. “Spill it. What’s going on?”

“I can’t talk about it.”

“What do you mean? Of course you can. You open your mouth and words come out.”

“No,” he said, his neck turning red. “I literally can’t talk about it.”

Remi grabbed the remote and paused the movie because they weren’t watching it anyway. “What do you mean? I don’t understand.”

He brought his hands up in a surrender motion. “I can’t say anything. I signed a contract. Just know that I wouldn’t do anything to hurt your sister. And things aren’t exactly as they seem.”

Remi narrowed her eyes. “You’re in a fake relationship?” That was what it sounded like to her.

Colton blanched and backed away from her, waving his hands in front of him. “I didn’t say that.”

“Oh. My. Goodness. You totally are!” She could always read Colton like the Sunday afternoon paper.

His eyes widened and he shook his head. “I didn’t say that.”

“You didn’t have to. You totally gave the whole thing away with how you carefully worded it, and how you’re not even denying it right now.”

Panic crossed his features and he balked. “I’m not doing anything. You’re assuming.”

“Then, are you?”

Silence filled the room as he squirmed, not meeting her gaze. Finally, he said, “I can’t talk about it.”

Remi picked up the throw pillow beside her and whacked him in the head. It mussed up his hair, making it stick up at odd angles.

Colton looked stunned. “What was that for?”

“You deserved it.”

He grabbed the pillow from her and whacked her in the shoulder. She tried to grab it back, but his grip was too tight, and she couldn’t get him to release it, so she poked him in the side where she knew he was most ticklish.

He jerked back but couldn’t go very far since they were still sitting on the couch. “Hey,” he said, laughing. “Tickling isn’t fair.”

She took that as an invitation to keep going, so she poked him harder. He squirmed and she ended up on top of him, the throw pillow pinned between them as she tried to get access to his sides for more tickling.

“Stop,” he said between fits of laughter. “I give up. You win.”

She stilled, her heart beating so fast she thought it might make her pass out. Colton looked sexy, even with his mussed-up hair. His gray eyes took on a silver tone in the dim lighting as his lips slightly parted, and she couldn’t help but stare at them. What would it feel like to have those lips on her own?

She’d watched every kiss scene Colton had been involved in. Repeatedly. It wasn’t fair, having them all so easily accessible on YouTube. It was a temptation too great for Remi. But now, just inches from his lips, she regretted watching them. Each scene replayed in her mind, taunting her. Colton kissing some other woman.

Something shifted in Colton’s gaze, but Remi wasn’t quite sure what it was. His breathing slowed, and he stared at her in a way she’d never seen before. Time stretched and she wondered what he was thinking. “Remi?” he finally asked.

“Yeah?”

“Can you get off me?”

“Oh!” She scrambled back, embarrassed to be caught ogling him. “Sorry.” Heat assaulted her, and she was sure her entire body was now red. Luckily, there was only one dim lamp on. She hoped he couldn’t tell.
