“There’s not much to tell,” she said, heading toward the bathroom. “We snuggled while we watched a movie, then I ended up falling asleep on him and woke up lying on his chest.”

“Like, totally sleeping on the couch?”

“Yep.”

Brooke slapped the bed. “Dang, girl. Do you think he was flirting with you? Because I was worried when we arrived. He looked like he was kind of flirting with me a bit. He was just giving off those ‘I like you’ vibes. That’s why I left so fast.”

Remi stared down at the wad of clothes in her hands. She didn’t want to be reminded that Colton liked Brooke. She’d rather pretend that conversation hadn’t happened. But it did. And Brooke obviously sensed it. No use in denying it. “Yeah, you were catching the vibes all right.” She looked at her sister. “He asked me if I thought you’d go out with him.”

“Hewhat?Oh, no. Remi, I’m so sorry.” Brooke frowned and combed her fingers through her hair. “You know that I’d never date him, right? I wouldn’t do that to you, no matter how famous he was.”

“I know.” But what could she do? If Colton liked Brooke, then there was no way he’d fall for Remi. They were polar opposites.

“What happened with that actress? Did he dump her already?”

Remi hid her face behind her clothes. She was no good at lying. “No,” she said, stretching out the word.

“What does that mean?”

“Nothing.” She ran into the bathroom and closed the door. There. She successfully avoided breaking Colton’s contract thing. She wasn’t going to be responsible for him losing a hundred thousand dollars and getting chewed out by his father.

Brooke burst into the room. “Okay. Spill it. What’s going on with the girl?”

What the heck? Remi shoved her sister toward the door. “I’m in the bathroom!”

“So? Tell me. You know something.” Brooke narrowed her eyes.

“I can’t say.”

“Come on.” Brooke grabbed onto the doorframe. “I’m not leaving until you tell me.”

When Brooke got that way, there was nothing that would deter her. Remi gave one last ditch effort to shove her out of the room, but she wasn’t going anywhere.

“Fine.” Remi sighed and folded her arms. Technically, it was Colton who couldn’t say anything about it. He was the one who signed that contract. He had said it himself. He hadn’t told Remi anything. She’d guessed it. If she told Brooke her guess, what harm would that do? Especially if she swore her to secrecy.

“I think they’re pretending to be a couple for publicity. But you can’t say anything, or Colton could get in trouble.”

Brooke’s eyebrows knit together. “Wait, what makes you think they’re not really dating?”

“I asked him. And he said he couldn’t tell me. Which basically was an admission, even though he didn’t really admit to anything.” Huh. Why did this sound all jumbled coming out of her mouth? It had been much clearer last night.

“What are you talking about? Are you drunk?”

“No.” Remi scoffed. “I don’t have to drink to sound stupid.” Wait. That didn’t come out right, either.

“Whatever. If he’s not really in a relationship, then you just have to wake him up and make him see you for the woman you are. You’re not staying in the friend zone. You’re not going to allow that anymore. Right?”

“Right.” Remi tossed her clothes on the counter. “Now, get out of the bathroom so I can shower. Colton wants me to come over right now, and you’re delaying me.”

“Okay, okay.” Brooke backed out of the room. “Get going. Just…” She scowled at the yoga pants. “Let me know when you’re ready to shop for some flattering clothes.”

“Ugh!” Remi slammed the door. Why did she care what Remi wore anyway?

Remi showered and got ready in record time. She was proud of the fact that it only took her fifteen minutes in the bathroom each morning. Brooke took forty-five, and that was on a good day. What she did in front of the mirror for a half hour Remi would never understand.

“See ya,” she called to her sister as she left.

“Good luck.”
