“When is it?” I heard Simon ask my dad.

“The Saturday after Thanksgiving at Finnegan’s.” My dad looked at me. “You’re coming, right?”

“Definitely.”

“Then why doesn’t Simon know about it?”

“Because it’s a month away and I’ve been focused on other things.” I looked at Simon. “I hope you’re available. It should be a good time.”

“Yeah, I’ll mention it to my parents too. They love that kind of music.”

A couple weeks ago this conversation would have freaked me out, but I feel much more secure in my relationship now. Which is a good thing because it’s looking like our families will be meeting next month.

Simon

I just changedinto pajama pants when my phone rang.

“Hey, I didn’t expect to hear from you tonight.”

“Just making sure you’re okay after meeting the family,” Keera said.

“It was fun. You didn’t need to be worried.”

“Did I seem worried?”

Even though she couldn’t see, I held up my hand with my thumb and index finger barely spaced apart.

“A little bit.”

“Sorry, I have PTSD from the ghosts of boyfriends past.”

“I get it. Zoe didn’t like Shannon and it was always stressful.”

“What was her problem? Shannon is awesome.”

“So is your family.”

“Yeah, they are.” She sighed. “So what are you doing?”

“I just changed and was going to watch TV.”

“Oh yeah? What are you wearing?”

That last question was asked in a low, sexy voice.

“Pajama pants.”

“Anything else?”

“Nope.”

“Hmm, I think I’d like to see that.”

“I could send you a picture.”

“As much as I’d like that, I think I’d rather see it in person.”

I heard a noise in the background, then the doorbell rang.
