“He’s not lying,” Max said, gesturing to their empty plates.

“What areyoudoing here?” I asked. “Shouldn’t you be packing? Aren’t you leaving tomorrow?”

Eve held up her hand and held up a finger as she answered each question.

“Max got done with work early so we took a ride up the coast and just randomly stopped. Probably. Yes.”

I looked at Adam to fill him in.

“They’re getting married next week in Pennsylvania, then going to Iceland for their honeymoon.”

Eve’s whole family is in Scranton and she debated about what to do for their wedding. At one point, they even considered eloping, but decided against that. Their solution was to have the wedding on the East Coast then have a reception party in Seaside when they get back from their honeymoon. Of course, we also had bachelor and bachelorette parties here.

“Why don’t I go get in line and you can chat? More people just pulled in and I’m starving,” Adam said, then handed me Thea’s leash. “I’ll just get a bunch of stuff and we can share?”

“Sounds perfect.”

“To drink?”

I pointed at Eve’s beer.

“And a bottle of water too, please.”

“Got it.”

“I’ll go with you,” Max said and patted his stomach. “I may have room for one more taco.”

I watched them walk away and join the line. Eve cleared her throat and I shifted my eyes to her.

“So, it seems a lot has happened since we had dinner last night.”

“Alothas happened since dinner last night.”

She squealed.

“I’m so happy for you.”

By the time I filled her in on the PG-rated details of what happened last night, Adam and Max were approaching with our food.

“How many people are you feeding?” I asked as he set the food-laden tray between us.

Max set down our drinks then settled across from Eve with his taco.

“I told you I was hungry,” he said with a chuckle. “Also, I didn’t realize the nachos would be so big.”

I grabbed a chip, making sure to get a good balance of lobster and queso.

“Mmmm, so good.”

Adam finished a whole taco by the time I started eating mine. I have to say, Andrew wasn’t exaggerating. It’s the best I’ve ever tasted. There’s a spice I can’t quite place that takes it to the next level.

“Summer said you’re a romance author,” Adam said to Eve once he came up for air. “That must be a fun job.”

“I love it.” She nodded, then chuckled. “Except when I hate it.”

“You don’t want to be around when she’s on a tight deadline,” Max said.

I sat quietly, watching Adam and my friends interact. Things had always been easy with him, and it seems time hasn’t changed that. Without missing a beat in the conversation, he picked up a chip and snuck it to Thea. She finished chewing then set her head on his knee. He looked down at her and smiled, petting her head.
