“And you hurt me.” Carli’s voice cracks with emotion. “You hurt me so much by pushing me away, Jace. I thought you were mad at the pregnancy and didn't want to do anything with the baby. It hurt…”

“I’m sorry.” I place my hands on her shoulders, only stopping when the toes of my shoes touch her slippers. My forehead drops to meet hers and I hold her there. Breathing each other in. “I’m so sorry, baby. I wouldn’t have ever left if I had known. I want everything to do with our child, you know that.”

“I don’t.”

“What?” I pull away just enough to look into her eyes.

“I don’t know if you would never hurt me again, Jace. If you had asked this a few months ago, I would have been certain you’d never break my heart, but now I’m not sure. After how you reacted, how you treated me… How can I trust you completely to not do that again?”

“What can I do to make it better?”

“Give me time.” Carli strides away, pulling her warmth from my body. I instantly feel cold and disappointed in myself. “You need to prove to me you’re still the man I fell in love with.”

I clench my jaw and nod. “Okay, anything you want.”

“And I want you to beg.”

I raise my eyebrow at her. “Excuse me?”

Carli doesn't give me even a hint of a smile, showing she fully meant what she said. She points to the floor by her feet and repeats. “Beg for forgiveness. Promise me you’ll never act like a massive asshole again.”

Inside, I’m fucking proud of the strong woman she is. If she wants me to beg, I will for days. Anything she wants, I’ll do. So I lower myself until my knees hit the ground, and look up at her, pleading. “I’m sorry. Please forgive me.” My quiet voice echoes through the room.

“All this mess, because we couldn’t communicate with each other properly.” Carli smiles sadly. “I thought I lost you.”

“Not a chance. We love each other too much to lose each other for good.”

I cock my head. “I missed you.” I confess with a wet smile, and Carli giggles. She gives me her hand, I take it and get on my feet.

“I missed you too,” she says.

“I’m sorry.”

“I’m sorry too.”

“You know I love you,” I whisper in her ear.

“You know I love you too.”

Chapter7

Carli

Jace grips the back of my neck, pulling my face to his gently. His eyes soften as he looks down at me, and when he rests his forehead on mine, I let out a breath of air I’ve been holding since I left him. Tears spring to my eyes quickly. I almost can’t imagine this is happening right now. Is this a dream? No, it would be a nightmare if this isn't real.

“Are you sure this is real?” I whisper, trying to convince myself.

Jace chuckles as his big hand comes over my stomach and he rubs small circles. “This is real. So real.”

His gaze catches mine before his hand slips under my shirt and smoothes over my skin. A shiver runs up my spine, my eyes flutter close. I missed his touch. I missed his closeness, I missed the way he makes me feel just by one glance. And I miss the magical, primal, wonderful sex. Blame it on my hormones, because right now, I want to drag him to my room and…

“What’s that look for?” Jace asks.

I shrug, feigning innocence. “What look?”

“Carli.” He smiles. “I know you better than you think. Do you want something?” Jace kisses the corner of my mouth.

“Yes.” I suck my bottom lip into my mouth. His eyes darken, watching the movement. “I want you.”
