“Can we get back to the bone apple titties?” Blake asked.
I cleared my throat and smiled. “Say it fast.”
Blake tipped his head to the side.
“Say it fast. Trust me.” Once he did it, Blake would get it.
Wilder walked back in and set beers in front of Charlie and Blake. He pointed at Shelby and shook his head. “You don’t need a drink. You’re already being a nut.”
Shelby rolled her eyes. “You’re the stick in the mud, not Blake.”
“Say that to me later,” he growled.
Shelby stuck her tongue out at him and grabbed her glass of water. “You mean later when you’re sleeping in your bed, and I’m in mine?”
Wilder’s eye twitched, and he took a drink of his beer.
“Boneappletitties,” Blake blurted.
“Titty,” I corrected. “Say titty.”
Charlie shook his head and ran his fingers through his hair.
“Boneappletitty,” Blake shouted.
Wilder threw his hands in the air, and Charlie busted out laughing.
“Bon appétit,” Charlie roared. “My god. Aren’t you guys from the city supposed to be quick on the uptake, man?”
Blake tipped his head to the side and mouthed bon appétit silently. “What the hell,” he grumbled. “Just say that. Keep the titties out of it.”
“Not the sharpest egg in the drawer,” I muttered.
“The lights are on, but there is no one at the wheel,” Charlie called.
My eyes connected with his, and my breath caught. Charlie used to come back with a malaphor when I said one. It was something we did that made me feel like I wasn’t such a weirdo.
And he just did it.
“Give me your plate,” Shelby called to Charlie.
I dropped my eyes to my plate and grabbed my fork. Do not look at that man again, Missy.
He made the choice to break things off with me, and he was not going to get back into my heart.
Not again.
Chapter Ten
Charlie
“Missy.”
She was almost to her car with Bandit when I called her name.
I was going to let her leave without saying anything, but I couldn’t.
She turned to me but didn’t say anything. Bandit heeled at her side and looked up at her expectantly. “Sit,” she whispered. Bandit obediently sat and looked up at me just like his beautiful owner did.
