“I can ask Shannon if she’ll tell us what we are having?”

“Shannon?” I asked.

Missy smiled. “Dr. McGee. She was the only one who knew about Nugget for a while, so we sort of bonded. She’s nice. You’ll like her.” She tipped her to the side. “Though she’s an hour away. I had to go to Mason to the hospital because Midge and Britt work at the clinic in town.”

“If you would have gone to the clinic, I would have known the second you stepped through the door.” I was kind of glad she had gone to Mason.

If I would have found out twenty weeks ago that Missy was pregnant, I don’t know what I would have done. I was already stressed out with the reopening of Chicken Biscuit, and if I would have found out Missy was pregnant, I would have gone off the deep end.

Things were still crazy with Chicken Biscuit, but now I had figured out how to deal with it. I had realized I needed Missy in my life to even out that stress. She was going to be my soft spot to land.

“Right?” she laughed. “I love Adams, but sometimes everyone not knowing who you are is a good thing. I needed some time to just sit in the fact that I was pregnant without everyone knowing.”

I cradled her cheek in my hand. “I missed you, Missy. I didn’t know what I had until you weren’t there.”

“Same,” she whispered. “I didn’t realize how much I loved you until you told me you didn’t want to see me anymore.”

“We were both fools calling it casual while we were both in love with each other, huh?” I asked.

She wrinkled her nose. “I mean, if it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we both should have worn it, right?”

I squinted. “Huh, yeah?”

“My malaphor game has been suffering lately. I’m going to blame it on my pregnancy brain, okay?”

I nodded and pressed a soft kiss to her lips. “I love you, Missy Clark. Pregnancy brain and all.”

“And I love you, Charlie Beck.”

A knock sounded on the door, and Bandit let out a woof.

“Who the heck is that? Please tell me you did not call Shelby Lyn.” Missy asked.

I chuckled and pulled out of her arms. “I did, but she is not the one knocking on the door.” I opened the door, and there stood Margot with a brown Chicken Biscuit bag in her hand.

“Hello, Mr. Beck,” she chirped.

“Hello, Margot. Did you get everything I asked for?”

She thrust the bag at me and smiled. “Last batch out of the oven before we closed.” She leaned to the side and waved at Missy. “Congratulations on the baby, Missy. How exciting!”

Missy plastered a smile on her face and cradled her belly. “Uh, thank you.”

Margot nodded to me and headed down the hallway.

I closed the door and held out the bag full of biscuits to Missy.

“How?” she yelled. “How in the hell did she already know?”

“I hate to break it to you, sweetheart, but I told her.”

“You?” she laughed. “You were the one to tell everyone?”

I smiled. “Yeah, I can’t seem to keep it a secret. I called her quick while I was walking Bandit, and it was the first thing out of my mouth.”

She snatched the bag of biscuits from me and marched into the kitchen with Bandit on her heels. “You’re just as bad as Flo and Del,” she accused.

“Hey,” I chuckled. “I’m a proud dad-to-be.” I followed her into the kitchen and wrapped my arms around her from behind. “You’re mine, Missy, and I’m going to tell everyone I meet. Doesn’t matter if they care or not. You, Bandit, and Nugget are mine.” I pressed a trail of kisses to her neck, and she leaned back into me.
