“I saw.” Kieran smiled. “Damn proud of you, Marcus. Brooklyn will be, too.”

The horror inside of him for taking a life slightly diminished. It had been life or death, and Marcus hadn’t had a choice. It was either his life or the vampire’s, and Marcus was the one still standing.

Beast slammed one vampire to the ground then dropped to one knee, driving his claws into the vampire’s chest. When another tried to attack, Beast swung around and gutted the guy. Marcus had never seen such ferocity before, and he couldn’t help but marvel at Beast’s strength and skill.

The fight continued until all the vampires were dead, their bodies strewn across the ground like rag dolls. Then Rayne turned to Nelo, who’d stood by and watched his men being slaughtered, never lifting a finger to help any of them.

Nelo smirked. “You think you can take me on, wolf?”

Rayne rolled his shoulders. “We’re about to find out.”

But before Rayne could strike, Nelo took off, a blur as he raced into the woods. Marcus’s jaw dropped. “Did he just run away?”

“Fucking coward,” Kieran muttered. “Your boss took off too. I guess he had other places to be.”

Mr. Blight was probably going to go underground for the time being to escape Nelo’s wrath, if there was retribution for this. Marcus didn’t care. He wasn’t going back to work, not for Mr. Blight, anyway. There was still the matter of Nelo, but Marcus doubted the vampire would be dumb enough to start more shit right now.

Then again, Nelo had proven that he wasn’t that smart. No wonder his coven didn’t want to follow him. They probably knew he was a coward and showed him no respect. He’d done nothing to protect his men as they were being killed.

“By the way, we broke into Mr. Blight’s account and deleted the stored video of Beast killing that vampire. All traces of the video are gone, except for Eleazar’s and Rayne’s copies,” Kieran said.

Marcus was relieved. Even if Mr. Blight tried to say that vampires and wolf shifters existed, he no longer had any proof.

“He also had some very…distinctive taste in videos stored on there as well.”

“Do I want to know?” Marcus asked.

“I’ll save you the grossness,” Kieran said. “I also copied them and stored them somewhere safe. If Mr. Blight tries to go public with our existence, I have his videos to shut him up.”

Marcus closed his eyes for a second before opening them. “Please don’t ever tell me what’s on them. It’ll probably scar me for life.”

“Cable took care of Lance’s stalker. He won’t be bothering your friend anymore. It was some pawn who’d been paid to follow Lance to see if the human knew anything about our existence.”

Marcus turned to Kieran, knowing full well that meant the guy following Lance was dead. “Thanks. I’ll call Lance in a few days and check in on him.”

Beast started toward him, and Marcus closed the distance, falling into his mate’s arms. It felt good to be held by him, to know he would always be safe as long as he had his mate.

“You need a full-time bodyguard,” Beast said as he hugged Marcus tightly.

“That means you’ll have to move in with me.” Marcus couldn’t think of a better plan.

“Baby, I’ll go wherever you go, so moving in with you won’t be a problem.” He cupped Marcus’s face and kissed him until Marcus’s toes curled. “I love you.”

Marcus’s heart swelled. “I love you, too, my big, brave beast.”

The rest of the pack cheered or made catcalls, and the tension dissipated. Marcus had never been so relieved in all his life, and he was so grateful they had survived. He looked at his mate and knew he’d found his home in the arms of his beast.

“So, about being private dicks…”

Beast laughed. “Not happening. The only private dick I want is you. Let’s go home.”

“A glass of wine and a heavy make-out session and all will be right with the world,” Marcus said as he grabbed Beast’s hand and led him back to the car, happy the chaos, for now, was behind them.
