“Okay, but tell me how you even knew about this hiding place.” As far as Cable knew, Sam had never been to this club before. His mate had said that he only went to work and home, with an occasional visit to his favorite coffee place.

“This guy,” Sam said, “came into the other room, took me down from the hook I was dangling from, and hid me in here. If it wasn’t for him, I don’t know what would have happened to me, because the vampires came into the first room I was in before you guys got here.”

The scent that smelled like wolf. Cable wasn’t sure who it belonged to, but he was grateful to the stranger for saving Sam’s life. “Do you know who he was?”

Sam shook his head. “He said he was paid to protect me in order to stop a war from breaking out, but he never gave me the name of who paid him or told me who he was.”

Cable frowned but didn’t push it. Whoever had saved his mate didn’t matter right now. The only important thing was that Sam was safe. “Let’s get you home.”

“Gladly.”

Cable took his mate’s hand and led him from the room, but as soon as they stepped into the hallway, a vampire attacked. Cable shifted into his massive wolf, his fur bristling as he bared his canines and let out a fierce growl. The vampire hissed, baring fangs, and Cable met him head-on, their bodies colliding with a loud crash.

Cable sank his teeth into the vampire’s neck, tearing out his throat. Blood coated his mouth, but Cable didn’t care. His only goal was to protect his mate and eliminate any threat that stood in their way. Once the vampire was dead, he shifted back into his human form and turned to Sam.

“Stick close to me.”

His mate stood there staring at the dead vampire, and Cable thought Sam was about to go into shock, but Sam looked at Cable and scowled. “How I wish I could do that. I would have killed every last vampire who came into my room.”

That was a thought that sent chills down Cable’s spine. He never wanted his mate to have to fight any bloodsuckers, but that wasn’t their reality. “I’ll teach you some defensive moves later.”

Despite their situation, Sam smiled. “I’d like that.”

Cable gave Sam a quick kiss before they made their way into the main area of the club. The only people there were pack members. Dead bodies lay all around, but Cable guided Sam around them and headed toward the front door.

“Glad to see you’re okay, Sam,” Rayne said. Then he made a circular motion with his hand. “Let’s get out of here, everyone.”

Cable wasn’t sure how the dead would be handled, and he didn’t give a rat’s ass. Someone would clean up the mess before the cops discovered the bodies. Of that, he was sure. The only thing he cared about was that he was walking out with his mate.

“Did you find Brazen?” he asked Rayne.

The guy’s jaw clenched. “No, but we’re not giving up. I’m not going to rest until he’s dead.”

Neither was Cable. Brazen had to be stopped, and Cable would never stop looking for the son of a bitch.

“Glad to see you’re all right.” Logan squeezed Sam’s shoulder and gave him a smile. “I might have had to put my twin down if things had turned out differently.”

“It’s still freaky seeing two Cables,” Sam said. “I’m going to tie a pink ribbon around your neck so I know you’re Logan and not my mate.”

Logan threw his head back and laughed as they exited the club. “Pink’s not my color, but feel free to tie anything you want around me.”

Cable snarled.

Sam chuckled.

Logan smirked.

“Keep ten feet away from Sam at all times, or I’ll bury your carcass.” Cable knew his brother wouldn’t cross that line. Ever. But it was fun threatening his life.

“Got it.” Logan winked at his twin before he caught up to the rest of the men.

“Come on.” Cable grabbed Sam’s hand and dragged him toward the SUV.

“Where are we going?”

“Home.” Cable had no desire to remain at the club. He wanted to get back to his territory and make sure his mate was safe.

Sam smiled up at him and nodded. “Home.”
