“I’m more than happy to. I’ll text you later if that’s OK?” he asks as he lifts my hand and places a kiss on it before smirking at me slyly, most likely at my wide eyes showing both the shock and blush that seems to overwhelm my cheeks at his bashful and charming nature.

“OK,” I squeak out as he smiles affectionately at me before turning to leave.

“Tell me everything!” Alice squeals in my ear as I watch Victor leave.

I turn to face her and laugh as she shakes my shoulders, squeaking with excitement awaiting any small piece of information she can get out of me.

“I feel so bloody bad, Alice, he’s amazing,” I gush, gladly taking the drink she hands to me.

“Why do you feel bad?” She laughs.

“Me and Crow have been getting closer,” I tell her hesitantly, having suspected for a while that she likes him. “I’m sorry, I know you like him, Alice.”

“What? No I don’t!” She laughs, “Why on earth would you think that?” she wonders as her head rolls back with laughter.

“You’re always blushing and giggly around him, I just thought..” I drift off, now unsure about my internal assumption.

“Have you ever watched me around any man under thirty? I’m awful around men, Char. If they’re handsome or cute, I turn into a shy and blushing mess. That doesn’t mean I like them,” she tells me, still giggling.

“Oh, OK, well that definitely makes this less awkward than I thought it would be.” I laugh.

“Where’s your boyfriend?” I recognise the voice and roll my eyes instantly at the question being posed in my direction.

Liam.

I turn to face him, finding him right beside me.

“My not-yet-my-boyfriend is probably at home or working,” I tell him sourly, wishing this conversation could end there but knowing without a doubt that he’ll carry it on.

“So how was your fiancé?” I freeze at his words, the insensitivity behind them.

He’s technically not necessarily wrong, but if he’s been told about the arrangement then he should also surely be aware of the fact that the situation between myself and the two men that seem to be overtaking my life is a rather difficult and sensitive one.

“I’m not answering that.”

“Oh come on, between your boyfriend and your fiancé, you’ve got to have some gossip to give me.” His eyes seem hollow and empty, devoid of emotion, and I feel so bitter at his lack of care that I decide to leave.

“I’ll text you later, Alice, I’m heading out,” I tell her with a stiff smile as I take a step off the barstool I had taken place on and begin walking away. He may be the Pres but he is acting an awful lot like a cocky, nosy teenager instead and unlike everyone else, I am not a Cobra and will not give him the same bloody respect they do if he can’t at least be decent to me.

“I’m giving you a lift home, baby, your dad’s busy!” he shouts in my direction as he speeds up to catch up to me.

I hate when he calls me that.

Of course my dad left it up to him to give me a lift home.

“So back to your boyfriend then.”

“He’s not my boyfriend,” I tell him as I steer my steps towards his jeep.

Thirteen

I’m sat in Liam's truck waiting for him and when he finally gets in, he doesn’t go to start the engine. He sits there and stares at me strangely.

“What?” I ask. Knowing exactly what is bothering him.

“That kid's your boyfriend,” he tells me. Not so sure of his words now as what he was only minutes ago.

I turn to look at him now, noting and reeling in his confusion.
