“He’s not going to do anything to put anyone away or put the Club at jeopardy, Char, do you really think your dad and I would have let him in if we thought he was?” Liam asks.

“You knew he was a detective?” I ask incredulously, pointing my narrowed eyes at Liam this time.

“Well yeah, but he’s not bad, baby,” he tells me.

I realise he's right. Dad and Liam would have done every possible check they needed to before letting him in, especially with all the crap going on at the moment.

I bring my arm down, the gun alongside it, and watch as Crow does the same, following my lead.

“Fine. I don’t give a shit who you are though, you hurt my family and I will kill you and make sure no one ever finds you.” I know I shouldn’t threaten people, especially this guy. My biological father. Especially a detective that I don't actually have a way of getting rid of or plan on shooting. My plan is just to scare him which apparently now makes me look like an idiot.

“I don’t doubt that one bit,” he tells me steadily.

“Sit down and drink your damn tea,” I tell him with a sigh and a roll of my eyes at my own ridiculous jump from A to Z.

“I’m sorry for threatening to shoot you. Probably not the best first impression,” I say as I smile and shift uncomfortably.

He chuckles as he looks at me. “One of the best first impressions I’ve ever experienced actually.”

“You’re a fucking badass bitch!” Dustin exclaims excitedly. I roll my eyes again and laugh at his absurdity.

“That is definitely not something I've ever been called before,” I lie as my eyes meet Crow’s, holding back the laughter that threatens to spill.

“That was insanely cool!” he says to me, before turning to his father. “Why didn’t you teach us to do shit like that?” he asks.

I laugh at him and take my previous seat.

“You may as well stay now that you’re here,” I tell Crow and Liam.

“Dustin, David, this is Liam,” I say, nodding to Liam. “And Crow,” I say, smiling up at Crow.

They all nod at each other in greeting.

“You literally live in a film. That was so cool. You’ve just given me the best idea for a new book,” David says as he shakes his head in astonishment.

"Ifeel like I'm literally going to shit myself," I announce to Liam and Crow as they start putting the weights back on the shelves in front of me. We have the gym to ourselves again. My last training session is over, and now the fight that could change everything is mere hours away.

An abrupt laugh leaves both Crow and Liam.

"OK, don't do that, not only would it be extremely unattractive-" Crow starts.

"I don't aim to be attractive," I interrupt.

"And that's not where I was going with this if you'd let me finish my sentence, little miss stress head. I was going to say, not only would that be extremely unattractive but it would also put you in a bad mood for tonight which is not what you want. You want to be in a good mood," he finishes as he comes closer to me and lifts my lips into a smile with his fingers.

"No, a bad mood would mean she was more lethal. Do it. Shit yourself," Liam says from across the room as a laugh escapes me at his stern expression and simple order of encouragement.

"I vote no," Crow says with a look of confusion in Liam’s direction.

"Do you think it'll help if I puke? Maybe I just need to be sick," I think out loud, nodding my head as if answering my own question.

"I vote no for that too. But I'm sure Liam would love to disagree with me and suggest that you simultaneously shit yourself and puke. Shall we add piss in, too, Liam? You into that?" Crow asks before turning to me again, "Go for it. Shit, piss, and puke on yourself, it'll help," he says mockingly in a tone that I assume is meant to be Liam’s.

Liam knocks his shoulder, "I do not sound like that and no, I'm not suggesting she let every bodily fluid suddenly hammer out of her. I'm just saying that her being in a happy go lucky mood isn't going to help her win a fight," Liam says, pinching the bridge of his nose as he looks between me and Crow.
