Page 54 of Signed For Him

"Why's she seeing the doctor?" Crow has a mouthful of food as he speaks - ever the attractive gentleman, which means that his words come out more like a grumble of vowels and random syllables than an understandable set of words mashed together to make a sentence. I understand him all the same, but I still send him a roll of my eyes and a confused look.

"Are you ill?" he asks, stalling down the food and rushing over to me, feeling my head with the back of his hand and looking into my eyes.

"No, she's not ill, she just has a terrible memory," Liam tells him as he whacks his arm away from my head.

Crow throws a glare his way.

"You said doctor. I panicked. No one explained. What do you expect me to do?" He looks at Liam as though he's stupid and has completely lost his mind which just earns him a second set of eye rolls directed his way.

"Pretty sure that's your dad's bike out front," Crow says, completely unaware of what my dad's presence means as he nods his head in the direction of the window for me to see.

Charlie

"He hasn't replied to me at all," I tell Crow as he ushers me along towards Alice's door.

"He will. He's probably just having a mini breakdown and then he'll be back," he says nonchalantly.

I look at him incredulously. "That's not ok," I emphasise, wide eyed.

Crow does nothing but roll his eyes at me.

"He'll be fine. This is a lot for him. You know it is. There's no way he can just go from being his dad's slave to this and it not affect him, Char. You need to give him time. You know he'll come back to you, he fucking adores you," he says as we reach the door.

I take in his words, realising that he's right. Liam has never had anyone truly care for him aside from my dad and some of the Cobras and even then, he felt he had no choice but to sneak behind their backs to protect me. Of course, it would be a big deal. He needed time. I can do that. I just need to give him time. It will be fine.

I nod at him and knock on the door to Alice's flat, attempting to wipe my mind of any thoughts of Liam so that I could give my full attention to one of the only friends I have.

"They're here, they're here, they're here!" Kira squeals as she comes to the door and opens it with a wide smile on her face.

"Hey, Mini," Crow greets her as he ruffles her hair and steps inside.

"Alice is peeing but she said she'll be out soon," she tells me brightly as she closes the door behind us and tells us to sit down.

"I did not tell you to tell them I'm peeing, I said I was going to brush my teeth," Alice utters at her sister as she walks through from the bathroom.

"Where's Liam? He's my favourite," Kira says grumpily as she mock pouts and looks outside of the door again.

"Firstly, that's rude, little mini, I thought I was your favourite and secondly, he's having a magic moment where he disappears and then reappears, but he'll be back soon, little Haribo lady," Crow jokes as he takes a seat on the sofa, his legs spread wide as he invites me to sit between them. I shake my head, not wanting to be too physical in front of Alice and Kira, especially with what Alice is currently going through with Edgar.

"Fine, come here then," Crow says as he grabs my arms and yanks me down so that I fall right beside him, tucked into his arm as I do.

"People in love are so weird. Why do you touch each other so much? Makes me wanna hurl," Kira tells us, throwing her fingers down her throat and gagging as if to reinforce her point.

"You'll be in love one day too and then you'll eat your damn words, girl," Alice tells her as she walks into the kitchen and returns moments later with a tray of drinks.

"Can I tell you your future?" Kira asks excitedly, her eyes filled with wonder as she pulls out a tiny bottle of crystals and rocks from her pocket.

"Sure. What do you need me to do?" I ask with a laugh as I watch Alice shake her head and roll her eyes at her little sister’s antics.

"Just put your hand out and keep it still," Kira says seriously as she shakes the bottle of rock in her hand and then tips them out onto my palm.

Her head dips, her eyes squinting as if to check the stones a little more and then looks at me, her eyes wide and curious.

"People are going to die."

My heart stops for a moment. Even though I know the likelihood of a thirteen-year-old girl telling me my fortune isn't going to be the thing to make her predictions come true, the crass mention of death has me feeling sinister and concerned.
