“Ah, there it is,” he laughs, his eyes gleaming. “Well, where are we going?”

“I’m not sure,” I tell him, furrowing my brows. “Hunt only said an omega and beta-only club. So, no alphas.”

I shrug, not too concerned. There’s only a handful of those clubs around the area and all are nice and fun. I’m just excited for a night out with my best friends and two of my mates without hovering alphas that stress way too much over our safety. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, and secretly, I love how much they care and worry over mine and River’s safety. I just think it’s time to stop fretting over something that happened months ago and hasn’t happened again.

If I’m being completely honest, with everything that’s happened since mine and Syn’s trip, I haven’t even really had time to be concerned over those two instances. They’ve been so far from my thoughts, my pack being all I’ve focused on or cared about since.

Things have been so perfect, minus a few completely ridiculous and irrelevant arguments River and I have had, but we knew that would happen. It’s always something small, inconsequential, and we always make up fast. So, as I said. Perfect.

River hums and nods his head.

“Sounds like fun, Little Bird. I like your friends, and a night out dancing with my omega is not something I’m going to pass up,” he says with a slight smirk before he buries his face in my neck, inhaling deeply.

My eyes close on their own, my head tilting and my body relaxing into his hold. The bond tingles as he brushes his lips across his mark before pulling back and smacking my ass. I narrow my gaze on him, rubbing my stinging cheek.

“That hurt, you brat.”

He laughs, saying, “Come on. I need a shower, and I suppose you need to figure out what you will be wearing tonight so you can get ready. Might I suggest something short and tight? I’d also recommend you do it before the others get home, especially Nico. I have a feeling our overprotective alpha is going to be none too pleased about this little adventure of ours.”

I sigh, knowing he’s right, and follow him out of the room, throwing one last glance back at the painting behind us before he closes the door and leads me to my room.

“Oh, my gods! I’m so happy you guys showed up!” Hunt squeals, practically jumping up and down in her sky-high heels when she sees us walking in her direction.

I don’t know how she and Syn wear those things all the damn time. Not that I’m complaining when Syn wears them because they make her legs look amazing, and her ass sensational. As for me, I very much prefer comfort over torture, which is why I’m wearing a pair of sparkly sandals.

“It was difficult, let me tell you. The alphas, mainly Nico, nearly had a heart attack when I told them our plans,” I tell her with an eye roll, wrapping my arms around her.

I hug her tight before pulling back, smiling at Gabe and hugging him as well. A tiny spark of jealousy pricks through mine and River’s bond. When I glance at him, he gives me a sheepish look and shuts the jealousy down as quickly as he can. I shake my head in amusement because fuck is he a possessive little shit. Damn if I don’t love him, though, ridiculous jealousy and all.

I meant it when I said it wasn’t easy getting the others to agree to this excursion. Nico was the main one that was against it. I could feel Syn’s worry, but she didn’t voice it, instead telling us to be careful and to have fun. And telling Kian to watch us like a hawk.

“No,” Nico says, arms crossed and brows low over his eyes, a scowl firmly in place as he stands in front of me.

Everyone is home now, and River and I just let them know we’ll be going out. Without alpha escorts, tonight. Syn is quiet, observing, but Nico has no qualms with speaking his mind about this.

“Nico...” I start calmly, determined to get this man to listen and stop being a stubborn ass. “We will be fine. Kian has already said he’ll come with us. There’s nothing to worry about at Le Refuge and you know it. They do everything in their power to protect all the omegas that walk through their doors and alphas aren’t even allowed in.”

River and I are already dressed, him in a dark, form fitting pair of jeans that hug his ass nicely and a white shirt and me in a short, slinky gray dress that falls nicely over my curves and ends in the middle of my thighs. When Nico saw us dressed up to go out, at first, he smiled and told us he’d get ready to go with us, not even asking where we were going. His smile slowly faded away when River and I glanced at each other and then looked at him with semi-guilty expressions. And now, here we are.

“Kitten, it’s not safe out there for you without one of us with you. Or have you forgotten?” He growls, but it’s more one built from anxiousness, not anger.

I narrow my eyes on him. “Do you doubt my beta’s ability to keep me safe and out of harm’s way?”

Nico’s eyes widen, and he shoots Kian a guilty look. “No! Of course not, kitten. I just- I mean- um...” He stumbles over his words, trying to explain.

“We’re going, Alpha,” I tell him resolutely, crossing my own arms across my chest as I stare him down and daring him to fight me on it some more.

In the end, he relented, but he wasn’t happy about it. Now we’re out front of Le Refuge, one of the nicest clubs around for omegas and betas of all walks of life, with not an alpha in sight. It used to be an old warehouse, but some French businessman bought the place for his omega years ago and told her to make it into whatever she wanted. She chose a club where omegas and betas alike can come to have fun and let loose without alpha interference. Hunt, Gabe, and I have only been a few times, but we always had a blast when we came.

Outside looks old and like the inside would resemble the makings of a horror movie, but actually, when you walk through the door, you’re met with low lighting and a friendly vibe. The music is always great, and the drinks are even better. The floor is concrete, with a side of the downstairs area set up for dancing and the other with tables, chairs, and booths. Upstairs is reserved for the omegas; in case they want to be alone or need a moment to decompress but aren’t quite ready to go home. There are several private rooms with snacks, water, and a safe space for them to sit and relax if they so need. Honestly, I find the entire concept genius.

“Well, whatever you did worked and now it’s time to dance my ass off with my two favorite omegas! Well, three now,” Hunt says, throwing a smile back at River before hooking her arm in mine and dragging me to the front of the line with her.
